Pettersen’s Win Catapults her to Second on the LPGA Money List
Nike Golf athlete Suzann Pettersen, of Norway, emerged victorious at the LPGA’s CN Canadian Women’s Open bringing to 13 the number of global wins by Nike athletes in 2009. Pettersen’s victory represents the first win by a Nike Golf athlete on the LPGA Tour in 2009.
Pettersen, who signed with Nike Golf in 2008, produced impressive rounds of 65-68-66-70 (-15) to claim her sixth LPGA title and win by a five-stroke margin. Pettersen used Nike Golf’s Victory Red (VR) Forged Split Cavity irons, featuring a split back design that keeps weight behind the sweet spot of the club head for ball control while providing forgiveness. Pettersen, one of the most powerful ball strikers on the LPGA Tour, was very pleased with how they performed.
“It was definitely a great week. I’ve been playing great,” said Pettersen. “I’ve been hitting my irons very solid all week.”
In strong winds, Pettersen skillfully controlled her ball flight with the combination of Nike’s SQ DYMO driver and the Nike ONE Tour D golf ball. During the week, Pettersen averaged an impressive 274-yard drives. Also among her Nike arsenal was a SQ DYMO fairway wood, a SQ SUMO 18-degree hybrid and VR Forged Wedges. Pettersen also wore Nike Golf apparel and Nike Air Zoom Vapor footwear.
With her victory, Pettersen surpassed the $1 million mark in season earnings on the LPGA Tour. Pettersen becomes the first Nike athlete on the LPGA Tour to win since 2004. Other Nike Golf athletes who competed in the field were Amanda Blumenherst, Paige McKenzie, Ashleigh Simon and Michelle Wie.
