It all started when the staff at Desert Highlands, a private golf and residential community in Scottsdale, joined forces to collect seven pallets of water for Arizona Helping Hands, Inc.a volunteer organization committed to helping kids, families and other persons in need.
Co-founded by Judge Paul and Kathleen Donaldson, Arizona Helping Hands, Inc. is located in the Scottsdale Airpark. “We never get entire pallets of water donated,” Donaldson said. “Every single bottle of water goes out on the street, the majority to the homeless or food banks. Without these types of donations we couldn’t keep our citizens hydrated.”
Led by Terra S. H. Waldron, CCM, CCE, vice president/general manager of Desert Highlands, the effort grew to include five additional pallets of water donated by the Greater Southwest Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA).
“I think the Arizona golf community as a whole is very generous, “Waldron said.
Paul Skelton, CCM, president of the Club Manager’s Association of America in 1999 and currently general manager at Seven Canyons in Sedona, said Waldron, who has 25 years of experience in the private club industry and has been at Desert Highlands since 2006, recognizes the importance of giving back. “Terra has always taken a leadership role with community-related giving,” Skelton said. “She has a long history of philanthropy and is a tireless volunteer. It’s great what she is doing with Arizona Helping Hands.”
