Online voting period begins; winner will receive a trip for two to San Francisco to attend The 2009 Presidents Cup at Harding Park
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Sept. 10, 2009 – KemperSportsTM today announced the KemperSports Kids Fore Kids™ Art Contest to benefit The First Tee of San Francisco. The philanthropic program, sponsored by KemperSports, is a partnership between The First Tee West Region and The Presidents Cup, which takes place Oct. 6-11 at Harding Park, a KemperSports-managed facility since 2004.
The art contest encourages kids to create an original piece of art that depicts their vision of “Golf in San Francisco.” Submissions were pared down to the top-10 finalists that are posted online at www.harding-park.com/kidsforekids. The online voting period will run through Sept. 21. Finalists were chosen from The First Tee participants in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Hawaii and Alaska.
The winning artist will receive a trip for two to San Francisco to attend The Presidents Cup Tournament. The trip consists of a package, compliments of KemperSports, that includes round-trip airfare, hotel, rental car and a round of golf for two at The Links at Bodega Harbour, a KemperSports-managed facility in Bodega Bay, Calif., located just 65 miles north of San Francisco. In addition, the PGA Tour will provide two tickets to The Presidents Cup opening ceremonies and two tickets to three rounds of the tournament for the lucky winner.
For the fundraising component, the winning piece of art will be turned into a framed poster to be autographed by both U.S. and International Presidents Cup teams and auctioned off to the highest bidder at The First Tee of San Francisco’s Annual Awards Dinner, Oct. 19 at Harding Park Golf Course.
“The establishment of a The First Tee program was and is an integral part of Harding Park,” said founder of The First Tee of San Francisco and Board Chair Frank “Sandy” Tatum. “The First Tee program uses the direction of learning to play golf to instill nine core values youth golfers will need for effective, constructive lives. It works to put and keep the young people on the right track for life.”
“KemperSports and Harding Park have been fortunate to be part of The First Tee of San Francisco since its inception in 2004,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to raise funds on their behalf.”
Founded in 2004 as part of the Harding Park renovation, The First Tee of San Francisco is a collaborative effort between The First Tee, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and KemperSports. Over the last six years, The First Tee of San Francisco has reached more than 1,200 kids while continuing its mission of impacting the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
