Fundraiser for the ANNIKA Foundation at Fiddler’s Elbow CC slated for Oct. 14
BEDMINSTER TOWNSHIP, N.J., Sept. 17, 2009 — The grand finalé of the ANNIKA Experience at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club, presented by Benée Scola & Company, on Wednesday, Oct. 14 will include the “Tastes of the Garden State,” a culinary extravaganza showcasing abundant, locally-grown produce and meats, presented by award-winning regional chefs at various stations and wines from California’s Wente Vineyards.
Michel Nischan, a professional chef and advocate for a more healthful, organic and sustainable food future, headlines the group of eight chefs from around the country. A two-time James Beard Foundation award winner, Nischan is chef/owner of Dressing Room: A Homegrown Restaurant, located at Westport (Conn.) Country Playhouse, and President/CEO of Wholesome Wave Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on making locally and sustainably grown foods available to all. He has become a catalyst for change and new initiatives in local and regional food systems.
Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam will serve as celebrity host, guest of honor and even the chef de partie at this special benefit for the ANNIKA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, which teaches children the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition, and offers aspiring junior golfers opportunities to pursue their dreams. The event is also supported by DUXIANA Stores of New Jersey, home of the DUX Bed of Sweden, and has locations in Ridgewood, Red Bank and Summit.
Host chef Jim Burnett of Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club will share his kitchen with Nischan and Chef Walter Leffler of the Olde Mill Inn in Bernardsville; Mark Bolch, executive chef from Mountain Ridge Golf Club; Nick Gatti from Alpine Country Club; Ariane Duarte of CulinAriane (Montclair); and Dan Rothman, general manager of The Gem & Keystone at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Pennsylvania.
Tastes of the Garden State, which follows a day of golf and physical fitness, will highlight the abundant, locally grown produce and meats, presented by award-winning regional chefs at various stations. Event host Annika Sorenstam promises to try her hand at assisting some of the featured chefs and will pour tastes of ANNIKA, her premium Syrah that debuted in May 2009 in partnership with Wente Vineyards. An elegant Northern California offering, ANNIKA is comprised of 75 percent Livermore Valley Syrah, 15 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley and, and fittingly, 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from the vines growing through The Course at Wente Vineyards in Livermore Valley.
Guests also will have the opportunity to sample SheerBliss ice cream, widely known among other things for its pomegranate ice cream, a flavor that it originated. The ice cream is made with 100 percent pure natural pomegranate juice, not a juice blend. Six additional delicious flavors, packaged in beautifully decorated metal containers, will be offered.
The ANNIKA Experience at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club is designed to satisfy the appetite for great golf, as well as treat guests to fabulous food and exquisite wine – while Annika will be making her first public golf appearance as a new mother. Daughter Ava was born on Sept. 1.
Tickets for Tastes of the Garden State are $150 per person and include cooking demonstrations, food and beverages. Spots are still open for golf (singles or foursomes) and further information is available by contacting Hunter Public Relations • Special Events at 908/876-5100, emailing annikaexperience@hunter-pr.com or by visitingwww.annikafoundation.org.
