MIAMI, Fl (September 21, 2009) – Very few golfers playing on the PGA TOUR have ever been able to hit a golf ball as far, and as consistently long, as Bubba Watson. In fact, Watson became a regular on the TOUR in 2006 and his driving distance numbers have been incredible:
2006 Averaged 319.6 yards per drive No. 1 on TOUR
2007 Averaged 315.2 yards per drive No. 1 on TOUR
2008 Averaged 315.1 yards per drive No. 1 on TOUR
This year, Watson’s numbers are down slightly. He is averaging “only” 311.3-yards per drive and is ranked No. 2 on the TOUR. Tuesday night on Swing Analysis which can only be found on www.thegolfersnation.com, Jim McLean breaks down the powerful swing of Bubba Watson. A lefty, with awe-inspiring power, Watson’s longest recorded drive on the TOUR was an awe-inspiring drive of 398 yards at the SONY Open in 2006.
Even more amazing than his distance is the fact that Watson is a self-taught golfer. He learned the game by hitting wiffle balls at his home.
“You’re going to see some kind of wind here, and unbelievable coil behind the golf ball,” said McLean of Watson’s huge coiling and uncoiling action. “I don’t know how many of you can turn that much or coil that much, that’s massive!”
Not only does McLean break down Watson’s swing in Tuesday night’s episode of Swing Analysis on www.thegolfersnation.com, McLean also studied Watson’s swing for his October 2009 article in Golf Digest in which McLean revealed his latest breakthrough in golf research, “The V-Gap” … which is when the left arm is parallel to the ground in both the backswing and downswing, the wider the gap in shaft angle, the farther the ball goes – you get more distance!
McLean, ranked as the No. 4 Golf Instructor in the World, according to Golf Digest, is not only one of the top instructors in the world; but unlike many of his counterparts, McLean actually studies the swing to see what the best golfers in the world are doing, and is able to communicate that information in an easy-to-understand manner such as the “V-Gap”.
Now you can see what Bubba Watson does in his golf swing, and Jim McLean will discuss how you can learn from it (a great lesson for left-handed golfers) in Tuesday night’s episode of Swing Analysis on www.thegolfersnation.com.
