Accomplished Area Students Are Recipients of 2009 Tijeras Creek/OB Sports Scholarships!
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CALIFORNIA – Nick Powers from Mission Viejo and Philip Gurule from Santa Ana were both recently awarded a $500 scholarship as part of a value-added benefit from Tijeras Creek’s Creek Card program. The scholarships are awarded to the college-bound dependents of the cardholders. Established in 2008, the Tijeras Creek/OB Sports Scholarship program was created to provide an opportunity for children of current OB Sports-affiliated cardholders who have enrolled in the Creek Card (Tijeras Creek’s popular money saving loyalty program) to apply for a scholarship to be utilized for college tuition. Its purpose is to encourage the attainment of higher education goals by children of OB Sports-affiliated cardholders, based on achieving a high level of academic success during high school or college.
“We are extremely proud that we were able to provide yet another value added benefit to our popular Creek Card program and honor the academic achievements for these two deserving students,” stated Rick Convertini, general manager at Tijeras Creek Golf Club.
Nicholas Powers is the son of Creek Cardholder, Jim Powers. Nicholas is currently a freshman at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo majoring in statistics. He graduated from Capistrano Valley High with a cumulative GPA of 4.0. In addition to achieving academic excellence, Nicholas was a scholar athlete and four year, basketball varsity letterman.
Philip Gurule who is the son of Creek Cardholder David Gurule, is currently a freshman at nearby Cal State Fullerton majoring in Business Administration and Radio-TV-Film. He graduated from Santa Ana High with a 4.5 cumulative GPA and scored 1680 on his SAT’s. In addition to numerous honors and accolades, Philip was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 28 where he earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in March of 2009.
“Both of these area students were truly exceptional and are certainly very deserving of being awarded our Tijeras Creek/OB Sports cardholder scholarships. Their academic achievements were above and beyond,” added Convertini.
