(VIENNA, VA) – Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – owner and operator of more than 110 courses in 25 states – has named Steve Keating General Manager of 1757 Golf Club in the busy Dulles corridor of Northern Virginia, roughly 45 minutes west of Washington, DC.
One of Golf Inc. magazine’s 20 “Most Admired Operators,” Keating will manage all aspects of 1757 Golf Club, including clubhouse operations, turf management, food and beverage, special events, golf instruction and on-site staffing and training.
Keating will also oversee completion of the golf course that opened nine holes for nine- and 18-hole rounds in May. The full, 18-hole championship course – expertly designed by architect David Heatwole, formerly with Jack Nicklaus’ design company – is slated for completion and opening in spring 2010.
With more than 20 years golf-industry experience, Keating most recently was General Manager at BCG-managed The Golf Club at Oxford Greens – ranked No. 3 course in Connecticut by Golfweek – where he oversaw the final grow-in and course opening in 2005.
“Steve Keating is an all-star general manager with the experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to make 1757 Golf Club a rousing success,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG. “When 1757 opens its full 18 holes next year, it will be award-winning in every aspect.”
“I’m excited to step in and direct the completion of 1757,” says Keating, a member of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) and BCG’s General Manager of the Year in 2006. “The golf course is already receiving rave reviews and the practice facility, clubhouse, meeting and banquet space and amenities are world-class.”
The driving range – with 76 hitting stations, including 20 on grass and lighted for night play – features simulated fairways and target greens. An expansive short-game area includes tees, mini-fairways, bunkers and greens for practice and PGA-certified instruction.
In mid-May, BCG entered into a long-term lease of the 1757 Golf Club. Named after the year Loudoun County was established, 1757 Golf Club is routed through gently rolling terrain with elevation changes up to 30 feet. Dramatic views of Broad Run and the majestic Virginia landscape keep golfers visually stimulated, and streams and creeks place premiums on shot-making. The course design, featuring bentgrass tee-to-green, calls for golfers to use every club in the bag while offering fair challenges to all handicappers.
Along with the full, 18-hole course, the richly-appointed, 16,000-square-foot clubhouse is scheduled to open in spring 2010. It celebrates Virginia’s rich presidential history with event rooms named after state natives George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and Woodrow Wilson. A bar, lounge, boardroom, meeting rooms and banquet space (combined seating for 250 people), make 1757 Golf Club a distinguished venue for weddings and other social events. The clubhouse also features two outdoor patios and men’s and women’s locker rooms.
