Tribute to Golf Legends Ken Venturi & PGA Club Pro Steve Menchinella The Perfect Prelude to Presidents Cup- Event is Set for SF Fairmont
San Francisco, Calif. – The Northern California PGA Foundation is proud to announce its 2nd annual fundraising event: The Langley, A Tribute to Legends slated for the evening of Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel, followed by a Pro-Am tournament on Monday, October 5, at the rich-in-tradition Lake Merced Golf Club in nearby Daly City, Calif.
The 2009 The Langley event will pay tribute to two, well-respected golf legends: Mr. Ken Venturi, PGA TOUR Veteran and long-time CBS Sports commentator, and former U.S. Team Captain of the 2000 Presidents Cup. Joining Venturi in the honor circle is former Northern California PGA Board President Mr. Steve Menchinella, a consummate golf professional with 40-plus years as a PGA member and currently serving as General Manager/Director of Golf at Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
“Both gentlemen possess strong ties to the game of golf in a multitude of ways and we are honored to recognize them for their contributions,” stated NCPGA Executive Director & COO Chris Thomas. “Mr. Venturi and Mr. Menchinella have a long history in helping others through their charitable work in golf, supporting worthy non-profit organizations like the Northern California PGA Foundation. Both gentlemen exemplify the true meaning of giving and serve as excellent role models for the rest of us.”
The Langley gala and golf event, named in honor of the reverend PGA Member Jim Langley (former long-time head golf professional at Cypress Point Club) benefits the Saving Strokes Golf Program, The Langley Scholarship Fund and the NCPGA Foundation. Anyone interested in supporting the NCPGA Foundation (501 c-3) through its annual giving program or by attending The Langley, A Tribute to Legends banquet and/or golf tournament (with opportunities for a four-some) can do so by calling 707-449-4742 or by visiting www.thelangley.org.
About the NCPGA Foundation
For nearly 90 years, the NCPGA and its members have been supporting community outreach programs. In an effort to expand and formalize their good work, in 2000 PGA members established the Northern California PGA Foundation. This 501 c-3 is dedicated to enriching the lives and communities of those in Northern California and Northwestern Nevada by providing resources to worthy golf programs, such as the NCPGA Saving Strokes Golf Clinics (in partnership with the American Heart Association) which empowers stroke victors and individuals with physically challenges. This program provides participants an opportunity to learn and/or return to the game of golf in an enjoyable and adaptive way- improving strength, flexibility and balance while expanding social skills. This alternative mode of physical rehabilitation often enhances stroke victors on their road to recovery while fostering lifelong relationships.
The Northern California PGA Foundation also aides in the continued growth and development of golfers within the region. Through The Langley Scholarship Fund, it supports and encourages education and assists students within the region with post-secondary schooling. Graduating high school seniors, college undergraduates and apprentices in the PGA PGM Program are provided with a means to achieve their dreams and promote the fundamental values that the game of golf has to offer.
