Oak Hill Country Club Ranked No. 1 Private Facility, Forest Dunes Golf Club Ranked No. 1 Public and Kiawah Island Golf Resort Ranked No. 1 Resort
NEW YORK, NY-The second annual Golf World “Readers’ Choice Awards” have been unveiled, recognizing the 50 best private, public and resort golf facilities in the country. The distinctions are based solely on the input of Golf World readers and will be published in the September 28 issue of the magazine. The full lists, including special online-only sections, can be viewed at www.golfworld.com.
Golf World readers were asked to evaluate the nation’s golf facilities in three distinct categories-private, public and resort-based on 13 different performance criteria, such as quality of the course, course conditions, reputation/prestige and service. More than 46,000 individual facility ratings were received.
Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY is the top-rated facility in the private category. The club was ranked No. 5 on the 2009 list. Rounding out the top-five are: T-2 Augusta National GC (Augusta, GA), T-2 Pine Valley GC (Pine Valley, NJ), No. 4 Kinloch CC (Manakin-Sabot, VA), No. 5 Oakmont CC (Oakmont, PA).
New Jersey (seven) has the most private facilities on the list of any state, followed by New York (five) and Georgia/Pennsylvania (four each).
The 2010 list features 18 private facilities that were not ranked in 2009:

On the public side, Forest Dunes Golf Club in Roscommon, MI was voted by Golf World readers as the number one public facility. The rest of the top-five includes: No. 2 Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge (Winter Garden, FL), No. 3 Independence GC (Midlothian, VA), No. 4 Tobacco Road GC (Sanford, NC), No. 5 Stevinson Ranch GC (Stevinson, CA).
Michigan (seven) has the most facilities on the public list of any state, followed by Nevada (five) and California/Florida (each with four).

The rest of the top-five consists of: No. 2 Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (Bandon, OR), No. 3 Turning Stone Resort (Verona, NY), No. 4 Coeur d’Alene Resort (Coeur d’Alene, ID), No. 5 Whistling Straits GC (Haven, WI).
Hawaii (eight) has the most resorts on the list of any state represented, followed by Florida (seven) and California (five).

To determine the overall rankings, the ratings that were received by each facility in each of the 13 performance categories were totaled and then balanced to fit on a 100 point scale.
