Florida Golfer Wins Largest U. S. Women’s Amateur Golf Competition

Port St. Lucie, FLA, September 29, 2009 – Pat Ayres, a member of the Port St. Lucie-Treasure Coast, FL chapter of the EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association), has won the 2009 EWGA Championship presented by Callaway Golf, the largest amateur women’s golf competition in the United States. Previously winning the tournament in 2006, she shot a two-day total of 144. Sarah Dekraay of the Madison, Wis. chapter won second place low gross with a 150 and Robin Banner of the Greater Knoxville, TN chapter won the low net award for the second consecutive year, posting a 143.

This year’s two-day championship finals were held on September 25 and 26 at the PGA Golf Club in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. The field had 205 competitors, representing 102 EWGA chapters from 37 states and Canada, competing in five flights of individual stroke play and a scramble team division. (See winners below).

Also of note, Julie Shore of the EWGA’s Raleigh Triangle, NC chapter made a hole-in-one at the Wanamaker 11th — a 115 yard par 3 on the first day of the competition.

Now in its 14th year, this annual competition had over 2400 participants in 2009, starting with 120 local chapter championships and 15 semi-finals leading to the 36-hole finals.
Since the EWGA started in 1991, more than 100,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to connecting women to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and for fun. Chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.
The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and its membership, visit www.ewga.com
