LEMONT, Ill., Sept. 28, 2009 – The newly renovated Cog Hill Golf and Country Club’s Dubsdread, has been named to the GOLF Magazine’s 2009 Top 100 Course in the U.S. list. The Jemsek-owned golf facility and home course of the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship is ranked 87th . Cog Hill was one of 14 courses that made the list for the first time.
“This is one of the industry’s toughest list to get on because it combines public, private and resort courses, so the competition is very tough and we are thrilled to make this list for the first time,” said Frank Jemsek , CEO, Cog Hill Golf and Country Club. “The renovation by Rees Jones has been very well received by our customers, the raters and earlier this month by the PGA Tour players. They all have been very positive about all the changes, especially the greens and bunker work. After undergoing a $5 million renovation by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones, Dubsdread reopened in May 2009. The original routing of the award-winning Dubsdread remains intact. The comprehensive renovation upgraded the course’s features and restored the strategy, design integrity and overall character inherent in the work of original architects Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. Average golfers will continue to enjoy the beauty and playability of this traditional style golf course while the best players in the world will encounter a challenging, but fair, test.
The biennial Top 100 Courses in the U.S. list appears in GOLF Magazine’s October issue. The rankings were determined by a panel of 100 members, which is comprised of Ryder Cup players, architects, amateur champions, photographers, journalists, historian and course connoisseurs. Each panelist ranks the course on design rhythm, creativity, setting and conditioning.
Cog Hill was the only public course among the six Illinois courses that made the list. The other courses that were ranked are; Chicago Golf Club (No. 15), Medinah No. 3 (No. 36), Shoreacres (No. 43), Olympia Fields North (No. 86), Butler National (No. 93).
