Trusts Titleist from Tee-to-Green in Come-from-Behind Win at Senior Players Championship
Fairhaven, MA (October 5, 2009) – It was an all-Pro V1 finish at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, where Titleist Brand Ambassador Jay Haas stormed from behind to win the year’s final major. Trusting a full bag of Titleist equipment from tee-to-green, Haas fired a tournament record-tying final round six-under par 64 en route to a 13-under 267 total, one shot better than overnight leader Tom Watson. Haas and Watson were deadlocked at 12-under with one hole to play, but Haas sealed the victory by converting a three-foot birdie putt on the final hole. Haas’ closing 64 was three shots better than any other score on the day. Mark Wiebe and Loren Roberts shared third place at seven-under 273, while fellow Pro V1 loyalist Bernhard Langer rounded out the all-Titleist Top 5, a further shot back. The win was the 14th of Haas’ illustrious Champions Tour career, including his third major championship.
TWO STARTS. TWO WINS WITH NEW IRONS: The win is the second consecutive for Haas, who was victorious in his last start two weeks ago at the Greater Hickory Classic where he put Titleist’s New CB irons into play for the first time. Haas kept the Titleist momentum rolling on the senior circuit, as fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Tom Pernice, Jr. captured last week’s SAS Championship in his first start on the Champions Tour. Pernice was the first player to win on the Champions Tour playing the New AP2 irons. The new four-model Titleist iron family begins shipping to golf shops in November.
WHAT’S IN JAY HAAS’ TITLEIST BAG?: Pro V1 golf ball, 905R driver (9.5), 909F2 fairway metals (13.5, 18.5), 909H hybrid (21.0), New CB irons (4-P), Vokey Design sand wedge (54), Spin Milled lob wedge (60), Scotty Cameron Studio Design putter.
TOP CHOICE: Titleist was the top golf ball choice among players at the event with 54, more than six times the nearest competitor with 8. Titleist was also first in iron sets (21) and wedges (51).
WINNING THE WORLD OVER: Haas’ win marks the 16th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2009 Champions Tour, which is eight times the nearest competitor with 2. It also tops a week in which Titleist golf ball loyalists captured five victories across the worldwide professional tours. Additional wins include the Nationwide (Jerod Turner/Pro V1x), Asian (Lin Wen-tang/Pro V1x), South African (Prinavin Nelson/Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909F2 3-wood, ZM irons, Vokey Design wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter) and Canadian Tours (James Hahn/Pro V1x). The Titleist win count advances to 127, over 100 more than the nearest competitor with 25.
