Private Member-Owned Club that Plays Host to the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship Selects Boutique Management Services Offered by OB Sports.
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA – OB Sports Golf Management has been selected to manage Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Established in 1926, Sedgefield is a traditional member-owned private club that features a historic Donald Ross-designed course that plays host annually to the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship. Member amenities at Sedgefield include an iconic 48,000 square foot Tudor style clubhouse that includes multiple dining outlets and an expansive banquet facility, a fully equipped 2,400 square foot fitness center, a tennis complex featuring five composition and three hard courts, a 25-meter swimming pool complex and a host of other private country club services and amenities.
“OB Sports brings decades of experience in the golf industry and was the perfect group for us to partner with to continue to position Sedgefield as one of the preeminent private, equity clubs in America,” states club president Curtis Collins. “Our Board of Directors was truly impressed with their experience, their hands on approach and the efficiencies they will bring to Sedgefield that will benefit the club and its members for years to come.”
OB Sports had been consulting for Sedgefield throughout the summer in preparation of the Wyndham Championship in August. Following the event, the Board of Directors approved a long term management contract. As manager of the facility, OB Sports will work closely with the club members and will oversee all aspects of club operations including golf operations, food and beverage, member services, sales, marketing and turf care.
“We couldn’t be more honored to be working with Sedgefield Country Club and its members,” states Orrin Vincent, CEO and founder of OB Sports. “We are excited to embrace and build upon the tremendous history that Sedgefield provides while also developing innovative new programs and member services geared towards future generations. Established private clubs like Sedgefield are a perfect opportunity for our personalized and comprehensive golf management services, and we are so grateful that the board of Sedgefield had the vision to allow us to become their management partner.”
The Board of Directors immediately approved the hiring of Andy Deiro as the Club’s General Manager. Andy Deiro has been with OB Sports for over 17 years and has had leadership positions at other OB Sports managed facilities including Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, California; Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas; and The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Portland Oregon.
“I am extremely excited to be selected to lead this historic club and to work with the members and talented existing staff members at Sedgefield Country Club,” states Deiro. “Sedgefield is truly a special club that I am personally and professionally excited to a part of.”
Located in Greensboro, North Carolina, Sedgefield Country Club is steeped in history and tradition. Established in 1926, Sedgefield boasts a historic Donald Ross design that was restored in 2007 to the original Donald Ross specifications by Kris Spence. The iconic clubhouse at Sedgefield was actually the birthplace of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953. Over the years, Sedgefield has hosted the game’s greatest players including the likes of Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Sam Snead, and Ben Hogan who participated in the Greater Greensboro Open (GGO). History continues today as the former GGO returned home to Sedgefield Country Club as the Wyndham Championship in 2008. This year’s Wyndham Championship was won by Ryan Moore, who fended off Sergio Garcia and ultimately Kevin Stadler in a playoff to claim his first PGA Tour victory.
