Named No. 12 U.S. Resort Course in GolfWorld ‘Readers’ Choice Awards’
(CAPE CHARLES, VA) – Bay Creek Resort & Club – managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – has been named the No. 12 Resort Course in the Untied States by GolfWorld in the magazine’s 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Bay Creek shares elite company with other highly-ranked resort properties, including Kiawah Island Golf Resort (SC), Reynolds Plantation (GA), TPC Sawgrass (FL), Kapalua Resort (HI) and Pinehurst (NC).
High scores in “quality of course, course conditions,” “reputation / prestige” and “practice facilities” categories helped propel Bay Creek to the esteemed ranking.
The Readers’ Choice Awards are based on more than 46,000 votes and 600,000 criteria evaluations – from quality and condition of the course to reputation, customer service, amenities and overall value – collected via a poll conducted on www.golfworld.com in 2008 and 2009. For a course to be ranked, it had to receive a minimum number of reader evaluations and grades based on a 10-point scale.
“Bay Creek is ecstatic to be recognized by golfers among the giants in the golf-resort arena,” says Mark Wesolek, General Manager at Bay Creek Resort & Club. “Each day, our staff lives up to the Billy Casper Golf mantra of providing personal attention to guests and pristine course conditions.”
With many holes along the Chesapeake Bay and Old Plantation Creek, the Nicklaus layout is lauded as a “player’s course,” providing diverse challenges for all skill levels. At 7,417 yards, the course features impeccable landscaping and is characterized by large waste bunkers and more than 100 formal bunkers. Natural beauty – with azaleas and roses blooming, shell cart paths, sea breezes, gulls swooping and the rare bald eagle – are a feast for the senses.
At 7,250 yards, the accompanying Arnold Palmer Signature Course spoils golfers with a calming seaside feel, natural sand dunes, five sets of tees and perfectly manicured fairways and greens.
Opened along with the Palmer course in 2001, the practice facilities at Bay Creek provide a great setting for player development. Whether guided by experienced PGA-certified instructors or working individually, golfers of all skill levels will benefit from the state-of-the-art range with five target greens and short game area featuring a chipping and putting green with bunkers.
Bay Creek is about 45 minutes north of the Norfolk airport, four hours southeast of Washington, D.C. and two hours east of Richmond, representing an easy weekend getaway year-round from anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic. In addition to championship golf, Bay Creek boasts a deepwater marina, boutique shopping, exquisite dining, walking trails, beaches and the endless natural beauty of Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
With its remarkable selection of housing choices, from festive island-hued homes beside a bustling marina to lower-maintenance condominiums overlooking the golf course to neo-classical mansions, Bay Creek is ideal for a primary or second home.
The 15,000 square-foot Coach House replicates a 19th century stable and houses the Bay Creek Golf Shop and Coach House Tavern. The Aqua Restaurant, located in the heart of Bay Creek’s Marina Village, is a preferred destination for weddings and other social outings.
