Meadowlands CC Will Play Host To Many High-Caliber Tournaments in 2010

BLUE BELL, Pa. (October 28, 2009) – After constructing a state-of-the-art indoor instructional facility, completing a major renovation of the golf course and giving a facelift to the historic clubhouse, what would be the next logical move for a private country club?

Answer: Show off the facility to the rest of the world.

That is exactly what Meadowlands CC, the 60-year-old club in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, plans to do throughout 2010. Meadowlands will play host to a number of tournaments, on a number of different levels.

“Although the main benefactors of all of this work will certainly be our members, we are very much a part of the community and want other people to enjoy what we feel is a top-level, championship facility,” said Meadowlands president Gilbert Benjamin.

John Shapcott joined the Meadowlands staff as head professional in 2009 and immediately noticed a consistent reaction among visitors.

“Every group of tournament players that visited Meadowlands throughout the year raved about the golf course,” said Shapcott. “They enjoyed the course and we enjoyed having them here.”

The schedule of events coming to Meadowlands in 2010 begins with the annual Golf Association of Philadelphia Inter-Club Matches in the spring.

The GolfStyles Cup Qualifier, an event to pick an elite team of Philadelphia players that will meet the Washington team for the GolfStyles Cup, will be held in July.

The Montgomery County Amateur Championship returns for the final round of its Handicap Division Championship in August.

The GolfTalk Live Invitational Qualifier will take place in September, sending top finishers in both the gross and net divisions to the Invitational Championship.

Finally, the Golf Association of Philadelphia Annual Meeting, GAP’s largest event of the year, will take place in October at Meadowlands CC.

“The fact that so many different groups want to have their championships and important events here at Meadowlands is quite an honor,” admits Benjamin. “There are a lot of clubs in the area and they could pick any of them. We are flattered that they picked Meadowlands.”
