3-prong design tees used by all finalists
November 5, 2009 (Oakbrook Terrace, IL) For the fifth consecutive year Zero Friction Tees were the Official Tee of the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship. The marquee event of long drive features the sport’s best competitors who have made their way to the championship through rigorous qualifying. Zero Friction Tees played a vital role throughout the week as all finalists relied on the 3-prong, biocomposite performance tee which is also the No. 1 Performance Tee on the PGA Tour™.
The event was held October 25-30 at the Mesquite Sports and Event Complex in Mesquite, NV. Returning champion Jamie Sadlowski retained his title in the Open Division with a 384 yard drive (into the wind). The 21-year old Canadian long drive sensation defeated Jerimie Montgomery’s drive of 351 yards in the final matchup to become the first back-to-back Open Division Champion since Hall of Famer Jason Zuback won four titles in a row from 1996-1999. Zuback did make his presence felt at the ’09 RE/MAX World Long Drive by finishing in the top-8 with a drive of 380 yards.
53-year old Bobby Wilson, also an LDA Hall of Fame member, accomplished a feat this year that no other competitor has. Wilson was able to capture the championship trophy in both the Senior and Super Senior Divisions. Wilson’s drive of 374 yards was enough to score a win over Sweden’s Johan Tumba in the Senior Division. His 362 yard drive defeated Pete DeBoer in the final match of the Super Senior Division.
On the evening of the 28th the Military Long Drive Championship was held. U.S. Coast Guard member Ryan Hixson took home his third MLDC win in a row which exempts him for the Open Division in 2010. Hixson defeated Army Reserve PFC Nate Chadwick with a 343 yard blast into a strong wind. CBS Golf Analyst David Feherty served as host for the event which is coordinated by the U.S. Army’s Moral, Welfare and Recreation Command.
Excel Golf Products, Inc. would like to extend its congratulations to Sadlowski, Wilson, Hixson, and all of the participants that competed throughout the week.
The Zero Friction brand and the LDA have become synonymous since their partnership formed in 2005. As a “thank you” to fans of long drive and those that were in attendance, Zero Friction Tees we given out at events throughout the week.
Also, exclusively for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, a 4-foot high Zero Friction Tee display was made for the tee box at the event. The exact scale replica is complete with a bowl on top that holds over 5,000 4″ Zero Friction Tees.
