World-Renowned Golf Instructor Set to Open Masterpiece on Site of Doral’s Old Silver Course

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MIAMI, Fl (November 9, 2009) – Friday, November 13 the Doral Golf Resort and Spa will officially open its newest golf course – The Jim McLean Signature Course. Totally renovated, the new course is already building a reputation as one of the most difficult courses in Florida for those wishing to play from the tips; while the course is a fantastic challenge for those looking to play from the “regular” tees.

The Jim McLean Signature Course features a stretch of three holes dubbed “The Bermuda Triangle” – a stretch of golf that will test the mettle of any golfer. It starts with a 480-yard par-4, is followed by a 154-yard par-3 to an island green, one of the prettiest settings in Florida, and finishes off with an extremely testing 450-yard par-4 with strategically placed bunkers, narrow landing area, and water running down the entire right side of the fairway.

The Bermuda triangle provides some of the most demanding shots you will see anywhere in the world,” said McLean. “No matter how well your round has gone, it can be lost on these three holes. Each hole is a gem, but a mistake will result in a water ball.”

But before you get to the Bermuda Triangle, you have to get through the first three holes, and if you’re playing from the back tees, you will be faced with what many publications have already been called the toughest starting threesome in Florida.

“You have to be ready to play from the get go,” said McLean. “You start with a 470-yard hole guarded by water all the way down the left and one of the great greens on the course – it’s 54-yards deep, is very narrow and sweeps from right to left. The second hole is 490-yards straight away to a rising green. No bunkers on this hole, but a tough undulating green. The third hole is also 490-yards, but this hole is a severe dogleg left. The tee shot is key as you drive near the lake on the left giving you a view of the green. This green has a huge two tiered complex with numerous pin locations and is guarded by four big bunkers. Strap on your helmet.”

In all, from the tips, the first three holes measure 1,450-yards and require precision shot making.

To help “break-in” the new course, several celebrities are scheduled to appear in the EXCLUSIVE event including such luminaries as Hall of Fame football star Lawrence Taylor, former NBA All-Star Penny Hardaway, and the “voice of the Republican Party” Rush Limbaugh.

While McLean completely renovated and rebuilt what is now called The Jim McLean Signature Course, it is not the golf instructors’ first foray into golf course design. In 1999, McLean reshaped and restored many of the greens and bunkers on Doral’s most famous course – The Blue Monster – to their original Dick Wilson designs; and McLean also designed the practice course and par-3 course at the Jim McLean Golf Center at Waterchase in Ft. Worth, Tx.
