VICTORIA, Texas – As the Jan. 1, 2010 date approaches for the implementation of the new Condition of Competition rule regarding grooves on the PGA Tour and golf’s major championships, golfers finally have a place to learn the whole truth about this very confusing subject, and to make their feelings be known. Through a grant from EIDOLON Golf, a free ebook is available at www.groovesurvey.com, and golfers can participate in “The Great Groove Survey”.
“The Spin Zone – The Real Truth About Grooves” is a 24-page ebook authored by award-winning golf journalist Steve Pike and EIDOLON Golf Founder/President Terry Koehler. This is the most comprehensive work on the subject of the new ruling on grooves and details the history that led to U.S. Golf Association’s decision to implement the new rule and what impact the rule will (or will not) have on golfers of all skill levels.
Produced with the support of a grant from EIDOLON Golf, “The Spin Zone – The Real Truth About Grooves,” breaks down fact from fiction on the controversial change, details through diagrams the differences between the pre-2010 rule and post-2010 rule, and features comments from some of today’s most influential players and industry leaders, including Tiger Woods and Ping Golf Chairman John Solheim.
“Over the past year or more, there has been a tremendous amount of misinformation about the new grooves rule,” said Koehler, a 30-year golf industry veteran. “While I have addressed this topic in my blog (www.TheWedgeGuy.com) and speaking engagements, it was a pleasure to work with an accredited golf writer like Steve Pike to present a no-holds-barred book that strips away all of the misinformation and misconceptions surrounding the new rule and provides readers with the cold, hard facts. There is no other place where a golfer can get this kind of detailed information and background on one of the more important rule changes in the history of golf.”
The new website – www.GrooveSurvey.com – also presents a consumer survey, called “The Great Groove Survey,” which asks questions such as, “Are you aware that the PGA Tour players will be using wedges and irons in 2010 that do not spin the ball as much as the ones they’ve been playing?”, and allows the golfers to share his or her opinions on how they groove will likely affect the way they play the game and purchase equipment. Koehler and Pike will share the results of the survey with golf’s ruling bodies and the media when enough results are tabulated to ensure statistical relevance. It is the only opportunity the vast golf population will have to be heard on this issue.
The new website, www.GrooveSurvey.com, went live on December 4 and will stay active for several months, according to Koehler and Pike. Golfers are encouraged to visit and become knowledgeable on the groove issue and have their voice heard through the survey. The site is non-commercial, and was made possible by a grant from EIDOLON Golf, maker of some of the finest wedges in golf, and a pioneer in custom wedges.
