(NEWPORT, Wales) – The Celtic Manor Resort – host of golf’s 2010 Ryder Cup and premier luxury retreat less than two hours outside London – has appointed Buffalo Communications to create and implement a comprehensive publicity and media-relations program.
Buffalo will leverage the Ryder Cup (Oct. 1-3) to showcase the resort’s best-in-class facilities and services, ease of access, proximity to Wales’ historic sites and other cultural attractions.
A popular destination among golf-tour operators and corporate incentive agents, Celtic Manor will also benefit from Buffalo’s connections and program development with travel providers.
Nestled in the verdant Welsh hills, five-star Celtic Manor features myriad amenities for golf, business and leisure travelers. Foremost are its three golf courses:
The Twenty Ten – first in history designed and built specifically to host the Ryder Cup
The Roman Road – Robert Trent Jones, Sr.-designed home to the Celtic Manor Wales Open on the PGA European Tour (2005-07)
The Montgomerie – designed by the European 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie
Two lavish hotels, tranquil spas and state-of-the-art health clubs; five savory restaurants; a renowned shooting school; a golf academy and miles of scenic trails for mountain biking and nature hikes are highlights at Celtic Manor.
With a convention center, exhibition hall and an array of well-appointed suites, meeting rooms and large ballrooms, Celtic Manor hosts groups up to 1,500 for conferences, weddings and other special events.
Featuring more than 1,400 acres of panoramic parkland and wooded hills, Celtic Manor is recognized as the “Gateway to Wales.”
“Celtic Manor offers something for every discerning traveler,” says Dylan Matthews, Chief Executive of Celtic Manor. “The Ryder Cup has really put us on the map as a golf destination, and players from all over the world are enjoying our Twenty Ten course and the resort’s other facilities.
“The Twenty Ten course remains open for visitor play throughout the summer of 2010, and we look forward to working with Buffalo Communications in welcoming even more golf travelers from North America as the Ryder Cup approaches.”
“The experience of Celtic Manor and its championship golf is exhilirating,” says Rich Katz, Managing Director of Buffalo. “We’re excited to partner with Celtic Manor to cement its ‘preferred-destination’ status and advance revenue goals – before, during and after the Ryder Cup.”
The resort was voted the UK’s Top Conference Hotel four of the last five years by readers of Conference & Incentive Travel magazine. World Travel Awards, Clubhouse Magazine, Golf Punk and other media also ranked Celtic Manor the top resort and golf destination in Wales and the UK, contributing to its selection as host of the 2005 EU Foreign Ministers Summit.
More recently, Celtic Manor played host to the 2009 PGA Magazine Ambassadors’ Program and the KPMG Golf Business Forum for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, at which Arnold Palmer was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The resort beat rival bids from Scotland and England to bring the Ryder Cup to Wales for the first time in 2010. Since landing the award in 2001, it has invested $26 million to build the new Twenty Ten course, clubhouse and surrounding infrastructure.
The resort is privately owned by founder Sir Terry Matthews, the Ottawa, Canada-based telecommunications entrepreneur who was born on the Celtic Manor site when the original Manor House was a maternity hospital.
