SAN DIEGO, CA. – Heritage Golf Group is pleased to announce that White Columns Country Club has been selected by the USGA to host the U.S. Women’s Open Sectional Qualifying on May 26, 2010; rain date is May 27, 2010. Qualifiers advance to the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open, July 8-11, 2010 at Oakmont Country Club, in Pennsylvania.
“We are honored to be hosting the U.S. Women’s Open Sectional Qualifying in 2010. With the championship golf course design of Tom Fazio, and the impeccable playing conditions, White Columns Country Club is the perfect venue for this event,” said Scott Renner, General Manager at White Columns Country Club. “With so many outstanding golfers in Georgia, this promises to be a spectacular tournament.”
White Columns Country Club is one of 20 sites around the country hosting a sectional qualifier event. This is the first year since 2001 that there is only one stage of sectional qualifiers. Historically, over the past eight years, the qualifying event was a two-stage system as there was local qualifying which then led to sectional qualifying. During this event, the field of 78 competitors will play 36 holes of stroke play in one day. For a complete schedule of events, daily results, and pairings, please visit www.uswomensopen.com.
Designed by award-winning architect Tom Fazio, White Columns Country Club features a layout that gradually increases in challenge and splendor as it builds to a crescendo over the final five holes. Impeccable playing conditions, contrasting transitional areas and sheer grandeur enhance its brilliant design. With its traditional, classical style golf course, White Columns Country Club is preferred by the USGA for its major championships. While demanding enough to test the most accomplished player, tee options ranging from 5,100 to 7,300 yards, will motivate and reward players of all skill levels.
