It will mark the second consecutive year in which the tour has conducted its season-opening event in the greater Hilton Head Island area, having begun in 2009 at Oldfield Country Club in nearby Bluffton, SC.
“We’re honored to be hosting the 2010 eGolf Professional Tour’s opening event of the season,” said Ray Dznowski, Director of Operations for the Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island. “With so many outstanding golfers participating in the eGolf Tour, this promises to be a spectacular tournament and another fantastic event for Hilton Head Island as a golf destination.”
The Palmetto Hall Championship will be the first of two consecutive events in the greater Hilton Head Island area. The following week, the tour moves down the road to Savannah, GA for the Savannah Quarters Classic, which will be held at Savannah Quarters CC and The Club at Savannah Harbor.
A field of 204 players is expected to compete for an estimated purse of $235,000 at the Palmetto Hall Championship, with an estimated $35,000 going to the winner. Players will split the first two rounds over the Cupp and Hills courses, with each player playing one round on each course through 36 holes before the field is cut to the low 70 players and ties for the final two rounds. The final two rounds will be solely contested on the Cupp course.
Player commitments will not be official until the entry deadline of February 8th, but two early names to keep an eye on are Drew Weaver and Brian Harman, with both players having recently turned professional after standout amateur careers.
