“The Driver Shoot Out proves to be an enlightening time of year for our readers,” said THP president Josh Babbitt. “We understand that consumers don’t always get an opportunity to test new equipment and as a major source of golf news and equipment, we feel it is our responsibility to provide the most accurate account of what’s new and what performs best. We were fortunate to have regular consumers review drivers from some of the biggest names in golf this year and congratulate each company for their participation.”
This year’s DSO was judged by a panel consisting of 24 golfers – all with varying handicaps that made up three categories: low, mid and high.
THP’s DSO panel tested a total of 22 drivers from 14 of the top golf manufactures including: Adams, Bridgestone, Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, Fourteen Golf, Geek Golf, Nike, Ping, Powerbilt, Srixon, TaylorMade, Tour Exotics, Wilson Staff.
The judges of the DSO, which did not have an affiliation with any of the participating manufacturers or THP, were asked to evaluate each driver based on the following categories:
• Looks (subjective category) – How did the club look to each panel member? Was the club pleasing to the eye and did it inspire confidence?
• Feel (subjective category) – How did the club feel to each panel member? Did the club feel steady during the swing and solid at impact?
• Sound (subjective category) – How did the club sound to each panel member at impact? Did the sound inspire confidence, or was it distracting?
• Distance (objective category) – Overall distance (carry + roll) of each shot.
• Accuracy (objective category) – Distance of deviation (right or left) from center line.
• Overall – Mathematical sum of the scores assigned to each of the categories.
Here are the winners of this year’s DSO:
Looks: Ping i15
Feel: Ping G15
Sound: TaylorMade R9 SuperTri
Distance: TaylorMade Burner SuperFast
Accuracy: Fourteen JC-909
Overall: Callaway Diablo Edge
“This is the first time a Callaway product has won one of our shoot-outs and this one was loaded with drivers from just about every company”, added Babbitt. “There was not a bad driver in the bunch, but when the smoke cleared, the numbers were tallied, this one was the winner. The overall winner did not win a single individual category, but placed highly in each of the categories to be able to take the crown.”
Ping’s G15 finished second in the “overall” score category, followed by TaylorMade’s R9 SuperTri, Cleveland’s Launcher DST and Bridgestone’s J38. THP Media consists of four basic groups to cover every company’s needs. The Hackers Paradise website that continues growth in huge numbers daily and is exceeding their growth plans by 400% throughout 2009. THP: The Magazine, which sold out its inaugural issue in less than 48 hours in December of 25,000 copies and hits newsstands nationwide in 2010. THP Radio – Which premiers in 2010 with its first show of In the Rough with JB & Mr. Bogey and will add 3-5 more shows on top of that. And THP TV – Which is broadcast continually on the THP website and distributed through our readers to reach thousands each week. The combined spectrum of reach for THP Media dwarfs the competition and is your “paradise” for reaching consumers directly.
The Hackers Paradise is quickly becoming the destination for consumers to read about the world of golf equipment, apparel, and accessories while at the same time having a blast entering some fun contests and winning some great stuff along the way. So many websites now are throwing traffic numbers up at companies to try and draw them in to advertising dollars. THP has no golf advertising by policy, so the smoke and mirrors is not necessary.
Unlike other golf websites, THP produces original reviews daily ranging from the latest in men’s and women’s equipment, apparel, accessories, footwear, tees, distance measuring devices, instructional aids and more. Because THP does not accept advertising from OEM’s or other golf-related companies on its site, readers can be sure each review is thorough and unbiased. Earlier this year, THP announced the arrival of its inaugural golf magazine, which debuted in December and sold out within 48 hours.
