ENDICOTT, N.Y. – If the terms “biomechanics” and “functional movement” are alien to weekend warrior athletes, they won’t be for long. That’s because zenoLINK™ LLC, a pioneer in the development of sophisticated performance analysis for elite amateur and professional athletes, is making its services available to the general public. As a result, sports will never be the same.
Coinciding with the launch of its groundbreaking consumer platform, zenoLINK™ has retained Resort & Golf Marketing of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., to assist with public relations and marketing.
“We learned about zenoLINK™ through our longstanding relationship with Crystal Mountain (Mich.) Resort and its golf academy,” said Dave Richards, President of Resort & Golf Marketing. “The instructors there were early adopters of zenoLINK™, and we were immediately impressed by the impact it’s had on their teaching success.
“Until recently, zenoLINK’s Ph.D.-level analysis of an individual’s biomechanics was a tool used only by elite athletes and their coaches,” said Richards. “Now zenoLINK™ is making it available to anyone who has access to a computer. The company’s zenoDIRECT™ product is going to be a game-changer for anyone who is serious about improving their athletic performance, whether they’re golfers, softball players, lacrosse players or cyclists.”
The premise behind zenoLINK™ is that an understanding and application of functional biomechanics – the analysis of motion and the effects of forces relative to the human body and its movement – can help athletes improve sport-specific performance and reduce the risk of injury. Not only does zenoLINK™ capture Ph.D.-level data, but it also offers Ph.D.-level interpretation of that information, which enables it to devise customized training and/or rehabilitation programs.
Moreover, zenoLINK™ is a leader in the emerging field of neuromechanics, which is proving that limitations toan athlete’s “hardware” (body structure) can be mitigated by reprogramming their “software” (how the nervous system initiates muscle movement) by the use of specific drills designed to reproduce small components of overall movement.
“We’re committed to bringing sophisticated motion analysis technologies and their related data to the general public, and providing that service with a model that’s easily understood, readily accessible and affordable,” said Chris Welch, President and co-founder of zenoLINK™. “Dave Richards and his team have gone to great lengths to understand our product and our objectives as a company. We’re excited about our partnership with Resort & Golf Marketing and look forward to working with them to spread the word about zenoLINK™.”
Using zenoLINK™ to optimize functional movement offers much more potential for performance gains than strength training or traditional technique coaching, although as Welch recommends, the ideal scenario is the coordinated implementation of all three components. Welch’s study of functional movement has influenced many coaches and trainers, including those who started the Titleist Performance Institute and K-Motion
Interactive, makers of the K-Vest golf training tool.
The Internet makes zenoLINK™ accessible to athletes anywhere in the world via zenoDIRECT™. The first step is a brief video session with a certified zenoLINK™ partner (typically a sports trainer, coach or therapist) during which the athlete is taped as he/she performs their activity (hitting a golf ball or baseball, serving a tennis ball, etc.). The video is evaluated at the zenoLINK™ performance lab in Endicott, N.Y., after which the analysis can be accessed on the company’s secure Web site. Also posted under each individual’s account are the prescribed drills to begin zenoLINK’s Progressive Skills Training™ program.
Consumers can subscribe to zenoDIRECT™ for as little as $350 plus a monthly administrative fee of $25. zenoLINK™ programs for clinicians (golf professionals, coaches, trainers, therapists) begin at $500, with a monthly administrative fee of $50 and additional charges for testing athletes.
