First major-tour victory for Penta TP, the world’s first and only five-layer tour ball
Carlsbad, Calif. (January 25, 2010) – TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Martin Kaymer used TaylorMade’s new Penta TP golf ball to win the Abu Dhabi Championship yesterday, whose field included five of the top-10 players in the world. Kaymer, 25, birdied the 72nd hole to record his fifth European Tour win and the first worldwide Tour victory for the Penta TP golf ball.
“I switched to Penta TP from another brand only one month ago and,” said Kaymer. “It’s easily the best ball I’ve ever played.”
One of the most critical shots of the tournament was Kaymer’s approach on the 72nd hole. While the other two players in his group were forced to lay up on the par-five 18th hole, Kaymer crushed a 277-yard, uphill 3-wood onto the green then two-putted to clinch a one-shot victory.
In addition to Penta TP, Kaymer played an R9 460 driver with Flight Control Technology, R9™ 3-wood, Tour Burner 5-wood, rac™ TP MB irons, and 54° and 58° rac wedges. Kaymer also wore adidas Golf’s TOUR360 4.0 footwear with advanced THiNTech low profile technology.
The victory elevated Kaymer to No. 6 in the Official World Golf Rankings and second in the European Tour’s annual Race to Dubai.
