“Hall of Fame” designer earns award for his new course at French Lick Resort
French Lick, IN – Pete Dye, the legendary “Hall of Fame” architect has received the ING Industry Honors Award for Golf Course Designer of the Year. The International Network of Golf announced the Award at the 2010 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida.
Members of ING selected The Golf Course Designer of the Year based on someone who has made an outstanding achievement in the field, with a positive effect on the game of golf. This is not an award specifically recognizing the most outstanding golf courses, but one, which recognizes the talents of the designers of those golf courses.
Pete Dye was selected for his outstanding work in creating the Pete Dye course at French Lick Resort located in southern Indiana. Dye, who has made his mark in golf course design for over five decades, created a 21st century design that acknowledges the advances in modern equipment, golf balls and player fitness.
The Dye course has sparked industry and consumer “buzz” with many vintage Dye design attributes, new unique design features, as well as stretching the length to over 8,100 yards. The course has already received several national awards from major golf publications and will be the host site of the PGA of America’s Professional National Championship in 2010.
“We are very excited for Pete winning this award by his fellow industry colleagues, which further solidifies the positive impact he has had on the game of golf and golf course design”, said Dave Harner, director of golf at French Lick Resort.
