(LAHAINA, HI) – Ka’anapali Golf Resort – managed by Billy Casper Golf – has been named one of the “100 Best Golf Shops” in the United States by Golf World in the magazine’s just-released ratings.
As the only golf shop in Hawaii to make the esteemed list, Ka’anapali shares elite status with other renowned courses lauded by Golf World: The Lone Cypress Shop at Pebble Beach (CA), host of the 2010 U.S. Open; Congressional Country Club (MD), host of the 2011 U.S. Open; Torrey Pines (CA), host of the 2008 U.S. Open; Pinehurst (NC); TPC Sawgrass (FL); Olympia Fields Country Club (IL) and Merion Golf Club (PA), among others.
“Ka’anapali is honored to be named to this privileged list with other famous golf courses by a prominent industry publication,” says Ed Kageyama, PGA General Manager of Ka’anapali. “Our shop is the only Ka’anapali logo store at the resort and – with guidance from our merchandise buyer Sherrie Golden – golfers and non-golfers enjoy a wide variety of resort apparel, beach accessories, golf wear and golf equipment.”
For the 25th consecutive year, Golf World has published its selection of the “100 Best Golf Shops” – a collection of private, resort, public and off-course golf shops excelling in retail operations. To be considered, golf shops submitted entries to the magazine and winning shops were chosen based on the following criteria: revenue per square foot and per round of golf played, appearance of layout and product displays and evaluation of promotions and initiatives.
The Royal Ka’anapali Course, a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design, opened in 1962 and has tested the skills of professional and amateur golfers. A par-71, 6,700-yard layout, the Royal Course combines wide fairways and undulating greens, making it distinctive, demanding and exciting, hole to hole. With more than 45 years of tournament history, the Royal Course has hosted many of golf’s greatest legends: Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Jan Stephenson and Nancy Lopez.
The Ka’anapali Kai Course is a par-70, 6,400-yard course and boasts an array of strategically-placed bunkers, contoured fairways, and re-shaped and resurfaced greens. The course is a delight to play with its sweeping ocean vistas and places a premium on strategy off the tee, accuracy with approach shots, and a deft touch around the greens.
The resort underwent a $13 million renovation in 2005-2006 and was given a 4.5-star rating (out of five) by Golf Digest in the magazine’s recent “Best Places to Play” guide. Ka’anapali was selected by The Golf Channel to host “Big Break Ka’anapali” that aired April through July 2008.
