In his return to PGA Tour, Yonex Tour Player Ryo Ishikawa shot a final round 72 (+1) and finished tied for 32nd place in the 2010 Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA. Ishikawa’s finish at Riviera CC moved him to 34th in the latest World Golf Rankings.
En-route to the best finish of his young PGA Tour career, the eighteen year old Ishikawa shot rounds of 68 (-3), 68 (-3), 72 (+1), 72 (+1) for a total score of 4-under par 280. Ryo’s second round was capped off in spectacular fashion, when the “Shy Prince” holed a 120-yard approach shot for an eagle three on Riviera’s Par 5 17th. Ishikawa would also go on to lead the field in putting average (1.65) and putts per round (27.0)
When asked about about the difference in his game now compared to last year’s event, Ishikawa said, “The mental part of my game is better than last year, as well as my putting. I’m putting more aggressive now. Also, playing in the Presidents Cup last year really helped me.”
In addition to the PGA Tour’s Northern Trust Open, Ishikawa is scheduled to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (February 11th-14th), WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship (February 17th-21st), Transitions Championship at Innisbrook Resort (March 18th-21st) and the Arnold Palmer Invitational (March 25th-28th). Ryo will also be playing in golf’s first major of the year, the Masters (April 8th-11th).
In 2009, Ishikawa won four times on the Japan Golf Tour, captured the JGTO’s Money List title, was the youngest player since 1952 to play in the Masters and also became the youngest player ever to compete in the PGA Championship and the Presidents Cup.
