Kevin Webber isn’t your typical Golfer’s Guide reader.
The 35-year-old software engineer and father of two from Hoffman Estates exhibits an obvious passion for the game. You can often find him on the range at Popular Creek, or when the winter chill sets in, the White Pines golf dome, working to improve his game. Webber says he plays more than 60 rounds a year, and that includes a fair amount of tournament play.
While those activities depict a significant number of avid golfers, Webber has had success on the amateur level most would envy. The highlight of his amateur career was qualifying for and playing in the 2008 U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst. His career low round was 67, shot at Schaumburg Golf Club.
As if you needed another reason to be jealous of the former Loyola University of Chicago golfer, Webber was recently selected as the winner of Chicagoland Golfer’s Guide’s “Dream Golf Giveaway,” which entitles him to 14 rounds of golf.
Webber won one round of golf including cart from each golf course that advertised in the 2009 Summer/Fall Issue of the magazine. Those courses are: Aldeen Golf Club, Arrowhead Golf Club, Blackstone Golf Club, Fox Bend Golf Course, Fox Run Golf Links, Glendale Lakes Golf Club, Hilldale Golf Club, Hughes Creek Golf Club, Klein Creek Golf Club, Plum Tree National Golf Club, Poplar Creek Country Club, Stonewall Orchard Golf Club, The Links at Carillon and White Pines Golf Club.
Webber says he’s played all of the courses on that list, with the exception of Blackstone and Fox Run.
“I’ve wanted to check out Blackstone the past few years,” Webber said. “I’m most excited about returning to play Aldeen and Stonewall Orchard – two of my favorites in the Chicago area.”
Golfer’s Guide is running the promotion again, this time in conjunction with the release of its 2010 Spring/Summer issue. The winner of the current “Dream Golf Giveaway” will win 30 rounds of golf from 30 of the premier courses in the area, as well as a “Stay and Play” Golf Academy package for two from the U.S. Golf Academy at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana. The package is worth more than $3,000. Golfer’s can sign up by picking up a copy of the magazine or online at Chicago.golfersguide.com.
The 2010 Chicagoland Spring/Summer will be available at the Rosemont Golf Show Feb. 26-28 and other high traffic locations across Northeast Illinois shortly thereafter. It profiles a number of the regions’ most talked about courses including Seven Bridges Golf Club and Ravisloe Country Club.
The magazine is annually distributed at more than 450 locations including golf courses, hotels, airports, corporations, sporting goods stores and golf shows. For more than six years, Chicagoland Golfer’s Guide has been connecting local and traveling golfers with area golf courses.
In addition to golf course profiles, the publication showcases some of the area’s prime venues for special events, weddings and golf outings, and takes a look at courses outside of the area that are worth a trip. A digital version of the magazine along with the latest golf news, events, golf course links and course updates is available at Chicago.golfersguide.com.
