Superstition Mountain, Dalhousie Talking Rock, Tetherow and Somerby
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – Five golf facilities managed by Scottsdale-based OB Sports Golf Management were named to Links magazine’s list of Premier Properties: Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, Dalhousie Golf Club, Talking Rock, Tetherow Golf Club and Somerby Golf Club.
“It’s an honor for our clubs to be listed in this prestigious ranking,” said Phil Green, President of OB Sports Golf Management. “We go to great lengths to ensure that our guests and members enjoy the best in terms of golf as well as other lifestyle experiences. It’s gratifying to have those efforts recognized by Links magazine.”
Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club was one of 33 clubs listed in the “Best for Golf” category of the ranking which recognizes, among other things, “communities that have some of the best golf facilities in the country, with courses designed by names like Nicklaus and Fazio…” Located in Superstition, Arizona, Superstition Mountain certainly fits that description, as the club features two Nicklaus Design golf courses, Prospector and Lost Gold. Prospector, which opened in 1998, combines the creative skills of Jack Nicklaus and his son Gary. Prospector hosted the 2002 Countrywide Tradition tournament and was home of the LPGA Safeway International from 2004 to 2008. Recently, Prospector was honored as one of the “Top 100 Residential Courses in the Country” by Golfweek for 2009. In 1999, Jack Nicklaus once again collaborated with Jack Jr. to design Lost Gold course. This links-style course offers generous fairways, slightly smaller greens (compared to Prospector) and strategic bunker placements. This year, Lost Gold was ranked as one of the “Top 10 Private courses in Arizona” by Desert Golf. Located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Dalhousie Golf Club made the ranking in the “Best of Club Life” category. One of only 29 to earn a spot, the editors of Links explain that the appeal of the clubs in this category, “…isn’t just where they are or what kinds of amenities they offer. Rather, it is about how they can bring fellow residents closer together in a uniquely clubby, social setting.” And the membership at Dalhousie certainly come together to enjoy the many lifestyle options at the club, including the spectacular 7,242-yard, Nicklaus-designed layout (No. 1 Course in Missouri – Golf Digest “Best in State”) and Dalhousie Manor, the new 20,853 square-foot clubhouse. Inspired by the classical Scottish-style manor houses, Dalhousie Manor features Old-World charm blended with contemporary compliments and amenities. Members also have access to on-site member cottages and “Dalhousie at Water’s Edge” which provides additional overnight accommodations, private access to ten acres of well-stocked fishing ponds, indoor and outdoor pavilions for wedding receptions, meetings and other special events. Somerby Golf Club made the list of “Best for Family” described as clubs that offer, “amenities like children’s pools, tree houses, game rooms and kid’s camps that can keep younger residents occupied while their parents and grandparents do what they love best: play golf.” Somerby is located in Byron, Minnesota near Rochester, only a 10-minute drive from the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. The golf course, co-designed by Tom Lehman and John Fought, represents a modern approach to a traditional links-style design with a par-72, 7,209-yard layout fashioned with an emphasis on strategy and visual appeal. The gently rolling countryside is dotted with meandering creeks, thick stands of trees and natural wetlands. Tremendous variety is afforded in the playing experience, primarily due to the superb mix and pacing of the holes and to the elevation changes throughout the round. The greens have been sculpted in classic fashion, medium-large in size with moderate undulation and groomed to tournament condition every day. The Somerby course promises a diverse, demanding yet fair test for players of all abilities, in a tranquil, pastoral setting that is considered perfect for golf.
