San Jose State Coach John Kennaday is well aware that Pasatiempo’s award winning track will test the talent of every team. NBC Sports Analyst Roger Maltbie recalls the challenges presented by a course of such championship caliber, having competed in the Western Intercollegiate in the 70s as a collegiate team player for SJSU. Still an avid Spartan Golf supporter, Maltbie recently stated, “Pasatiempo is a great course for a young player to find out how good they are and how great they need to be.”
Other standout players whose formative years include competing in The Western at Pasatiempo are Al Geiberger, John Lotz, Bob Rosburg, Dave Stockton, Tom Watson, and Tiger Woods. Accomplished players who’ve claimed title to The Western include Bobby Clampett, Peter Jacobson, Mark Lye, Johnny Miller, Arron Oberholser, Mark O’Meara, and Ken Venturi.
“The Western Intercollegiate is one of the longest running tournaments in college golf and it’s played on one of the top courses in the United States,” says San Jose State Coach John Kennaday. According to Kennaday, spectators are welcome Sat. April 17 and Sun. April 18, and avid amateur golfers, business leaders and alums are invited to tee it up in the College-Am on Fri. April 16.
