The Fairway & Greene Pebble Beach Pro Member Invitational is a celebration of the apparel company’s appreciation for its green-grass customer base. The field will include foursomes consisting of the nation’s finest golf professionals and three of their members. The golf professionals will compete for a total purse of $40,000 with $7,000 paid to the winner. The members will enjoy three days of golf, first class accommodations and a tee prize package certain to make their experience on the Pebble Beach golf courses even more enjoyable.
“We are very excited to expand our relationship with Pebble Beach Company and deliver a world class event at the world’s most recognized golf resort”, says Andy Bell, President of Fairway & Greene. “It’s an honor for us to be able to invite our loyal golf professionals and their members to this magical part of the world for three wonderful days of competition and, more importantly, camaraderie.”
Competitors will arrive at Pebble Beach Resorts on Sunday, March 21, to register and attend an evening reception at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, their home for four nights. The tournament’s first round will be played on Monday at The Links at Spanish Bay, followed by a late-afternoon Spyglass Hill Shootout. The world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Links will host Tuesday’s second round, followed that evening by cocktails and dinner at The Beach & Tennis Club at Pebble Beach. Spyglass Hill Golf Course will host Wednesday’s final round. A post-round awards reception, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be held at The Lodge at Pebble Beach.
“As the former Head Golf Professional at Spyglass Hill, I have long admired the quality of the Fairway & Greene brand,” said Pebble Beach Resorts Director of Tournaments, Bill Sendell. “They are the perfect fit as the title sponsor for this tournament and I look forward to working alongside them to create an event that cannot be missed.”
The three award-winning host courses are among the world’s finest resort layouts.
Pebble Beach Golf Links has thrilled golfers and spectators alike since 1919 with its unique challenge and exquisite beauty. The legendary 7,040-yard, par-72 course-which topped Golf Digest’s America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses 2009-2010 ranking-has hosted some of golf’s most prestigious tournaments, among them five U.S. Opens (including this year’s) and the PGA TOUR’s annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The layout-designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant-hugs the rugged coastline, providing stunning vistas, cliffside fairways and sloping greens.
Fairway & Greene In a nod toward the ancient Scots’ concept of golf, The Links at Spanish Bay is a faithful replication of a Scottish links thanks to the design team of Robert Trent Jones Jr., Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum. The 6,821-yard, par-72 course-with its seaside location, native grasses and ocean breezes-is so authentic that even the Monterey coastline mirrors Scotland’s rugged, natural beauty. The design invites low, running shots on the firm turf while keeping the ball under the wind.
Spyglass Hill Golf Course takes its name from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island, published in 1863. Each hole of the Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed layout is named after characters in Treasure Island. The 6,953-yard, par-72 course is ranked 51st in Golf Digest’s America’s 100 Greatest Courses 2009-2010 and 11th in the magazine’s America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses ranking. Spyglass Hill’s first five holes roll through spectacular sandy seaside dunes. The following 13 holes are cut through majestic pines with elevated greens, and strategically placed bunkers and lakes. The course annually co-hosts the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, with hole Nos. 6, 8 and 16 consistently rated among the PGA TOUR’s toughest.
“The host professionals at all of the Pebble Beach courses have done an incredible job organizing and supporting this event,” Bell adds. “With the AT&T just completed and the 2010 U.S. Open on the horizon in June, there is a lot of excitement around Pebble Beach. I’m thrilled that we will have the opportunity to share some of that excitement with our customers and their members.”
