LAKE MARY, FL – Veteran golf journalist and broadcaster Adam Barr will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the 20th Anniversary ING Spring Conference May 9-13 at the beautiful and historic Pinehurst Resort.
Anyone in the golf industry and media is invited to attend (www.inggolf.com).
The non-profit International Network of Golf conducts this annual gathering of golf media and business leaders to exchange information, display products and develop and nurture business relationships.
Barr will guide the conference attendees through the various elements, from seminars to guest speakers to networking events, all the while sharing the expertise he has gained from his 17 years of covering the golf industry.
Barr’s career in the golf business kicked at GOLFWEEK magazine first as a freelance writer, then as a full-time business editor. He joined The Golf Channel when that network was just two years old. While there, he covered events on virtually every major professional tour, as well as many top amateur tournaments. His experience as a lawyer (prior to entering the golf business) helped him guide viewers through the legal and rules issues that have intersected with golf, including the Casey Martin golf cart case, which Barr followed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Barr’s core competency has always been the tools of the game. His relationships on the tours and with equipment manufacturers have enabled him to show fans and players how to enjoy the game more through equipment.
His current venture utilizes that knowledge and experience in a big way. Adam Barr Golf Gear Guide features up-to-the-minute information and stories on golf equipment and the pros using the gear (www.adambarrgolfgearguide.com). It is the centerpiece of The Adam Barr Group LLC, a media and sports consulting and presentation company.
Barr grew up in Pittsburgh during the best sports years (two World Series and four Super Bowls), and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Duquesne University School of Law. He lives near Orlando with his wife and son.
The ING Conference schedule is jammed with educational, networking and product display opportunities. The highlights:
1) The ever-popular One-On-One Appointment Show, a series of private meetings between exhibitors and media to open lines of communication, create unique promotional programs, gather story materials and build relationships.
2) The State Of The Industry Breakfast. Workers from different segments of the golf industry will lead discussions on the current state of the golf business, with the hope of creating solutions to lead individuals and companies back into a positive direction.
3) The Demo Lab will feature companies large and small displaying their latest equipment and training gear on the practice range and green.
4) Education and self-improvement programs galore, including a session touching on the utilization of Social Media and marketing programs.
5) Motivational session with one of the best in the world, Chip Eichelberger, formerly of the Tony Robbins company.
6) Lots of golf events, including the International Pairs World Qualifier, a two-player team event from which the winners will advance to compete in the world championship in Scotland in October.
Another terrific reason to attend this conference is the host site itself. Located in the North Carolina heartland, world-renowned Pinehurst Resort is a 2,000-acre historic property featuring spa, golf, tennis, family, events and leisure recreation. Widely known as the cradle of American golf, it has hosted more single golf championships than any other site in America, including the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, Ryder Cup Matches, PGA Tour Championship and many others. In 2008 it became the only resort to top the coveted Travel +Leisure Golf Best Golf Resort list for an unprecedented third time, as chosen by its readers.
Having already hosted two U.S. Opens, Pinehurst Resort will become the first host site of back-to-back Men’s and Women’s U.S. Opens in 2014.
Those interested in attending may do so by visiting www.inggolf.com and clicking on Spring Conference. An electronic registration process is available.
