Prestigious member-owned club among the country’s finest

Scottsdale, Ariz. (March 8, 2010) – Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce it has been selected to manage Muttontown Club, a prestigious 45-year-old, member-owned golf & country club located in East Norwich, N.Y. on the north shore of Long Island.

Situated on a magnificent estate featuring rolling hills and lush gardens, the club is home to an 18-hole golf course originally designed by course architect Alfred H. Tull. Its elegant clubhouse, a Georgian-style mansion built in 1919, houses three dining rooms, conference rooms, locker rooms, a fitness facility, card rooms, golf shop, tennis & pool complex, and a poolside café.

“Muttontown Club is truly an exceptional private facility with an outstanding reputation,” stated Jim McLaughlin, senior vice president, Privé, Troon Golf. “We are honored to have been selected by them and are confident that our management practices will contribute positively to the experience of the members and guests.”

The founders of Muttontown Club had always believed the magnificent estate was ideally suited to become a golf & country club. Their dream became a reality after 1960 when the estate was purchased by the club’s founders and the golf course was finished two years later. Muttontown Club is now regarded as one of the most beautiful golf clubs in the New York metropolitan area.

“Troon Golf’s impressive worldwide reputation is well-known and highly respected in the golf industry,” stated club president Mitchell Mandel. “In this day and age of ‘club hopping’ and overall declines in membership numbers at most private clubs, Muttontown’s association with Troon Golf will be a major factor that sets us apart in this increasingly competitive marketplace.”

The iconic clubhouse took five years to complete and quickly became known as “The Chimneys” because of the 26 fireplaces and 13 chimneys that are spread through the 44-room mansion. It’s charming architecture and lavishly equipped amenities play a major role in the club’s reputation as the most distinguished club in the area.
