Villegas captures his third career PGA Tour title in record-setting style

CARLSBAD, CA (March 8, 2010) – Cobra Brand Ambassador Camilo Villegas captured the third title of his career with a record-setting 13-under 267, the lowest score at The Honda Classic since it moved to PGA National in 2007. Villegas held the lead for the final three rounds and racked up 22 birdies during the tournament.

“I just kept plugging; I kept hitting good shots,” Villegas said. “If there was a golf course where you can mess up coming in, it’s this one, trust me. Those finishing holes are tough. And I just picked my targets, made good swings and took care of business.”

The win follows top 10 performances by Villegas at the Waste Management Phoenix Open (T-8) and WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship (3rd) — not to mention a whirlwind week, as Villegas flew to his home country of Colombia to kick off the Nationwide Tour’s Pacific Rubiales Bogota Open, the first PGA Tour-sanctioned event in South America, and then returned the night before his first round.

Villegas climbed to No. 3 in the FedEx Cup Standings, No. 12 in the world rankings, and is No. 2 in driving distance on the PGA Tour at 300.3 yards.

Here’s what’s in his Cobra golf bag:
Driver: Cobra S9-1 Pro S (10.5) | Matrix Ozik TP7, XX flex

Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled (54º, 58º, 60º) | Project X Wedge

Fellow Cobra ambassador J.B. Holmes tied for 12th and ranked No. 1 in eagles for the weekend. Playing the new Cobra S2 driver (9.5º, set to Neutral) for the first time in competition, he averaged 303.5 yards off the tee and moved to No. 9 in the FedEx Cup rankings, getting him into the field at the WGC-CA Championships. Cobra ambassadors on the PGA Tour are all ranked in the top 10 in FedEx Cup points: Villegas (3), Ian Poulter (5) and Holmes (9).
