Citing non-golf brands’ success using social media to accomplish business goals
(Chicago, IL – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) While Macali Communications’ social media expert Kevin Donnellon is encouraged by golf business’ interest in social media, he says golf brands still have catching up to do to fully harness social technologies to accomplish their business goals.
A Macali review of leading golf brands about social media technologies revealed that they:
• Have launched Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages and profiles.
• Produced E-zines and newsletters providing exclusive content and special offers.
• Few have Flickr or YouTube accounts.
• There are limited corporate or brand blogs.

Core golfers are into social technologies, going online/on e-mail every day (88% using it several times throughout the day); according to a National Golf Foundation (NGF) report. Most important for brands are golfers’ online interests include articles on instruction, equipment and travel research and recommendations, Tour highlights and posting equipment and course reviews.
“Golf can look to many major and small brands outside its industry that are using social technologies to accomplish important business goals such as introducing new products, building communities, enhancing customer service, driving sales and website traffic, prospecting, developing brands and expanding awareness, and cause-related efforts,” says Donnellon.
Donnellon cites Intuit, Crocs, Ford, Blendtec, SAP, Office Max, Comcast and Zappos as brands successfully using B2B and B2C social media strategies. They have used Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flckr, forums and their own blogs and sites to create and execute social media campaigns.
