Instructors at Doral spending week on range and out on the course to observe what the best players in the world are doing, and bring that knowledge to the lesson tee
MIAMI, Fl (March 10, 2010) – The CA Championship makes its annual visit to the Doral Golf Resort & Spa this week, signaling the one week per year that the Jim McLean Golf School significantly reduces lessons and golf schools for the general public. Instead, professional golfers from around the world, the best on the PGA TOUR and the European PGA Tour fill the lesson tee and SuperStation. And while many of the world’s best golfers look for a tip on their game, it’s also the perfect time for instructors at the Jim McLean Golf School at Doral to go to school – that is they spend the week out on the tee observing and speaking with the world’s best golfers.
“There are certain fundamentals that the great players have in common that are missing from the average to higher handicapper’s swing,” said Jim McLean Golf School’s Director of Instructor, Christopher Toulson, and a Top-100 Teacher. “Learning what these “moves” or fundamentals are and then showing them and implementing them into your student’s game is a tremendous help.”
Throughout the week, JMGS instructors will tape the swings of virtually every golfer in the field, and enter the swings into a mammoth database of golf swings at the school. It’s a perfect learning experience. “On the practice tee we are learning different drills and techniques that a TOUR player might be using. The video camera is left on in order to capture these drills and any nuances that the player demonstrates during the pre- and post-swing phases,” said Toulson.
Following the tournament, each staff member conducts research on specific areas of the swing, and later provides a detailed – and extensive – report on what they have found, and presents the report at a gathering of all teachers at the Jim McLean Golf School.
“We are strengthening our TOUR player swing database, and that allows us to continue swing research and validate what the best ball strikers in the world are doing,” said Toulson.
