Student/golfers at new junior golf academy in Texas will prep, play and learn from tournament play
MIAMI, Fl (March 22, 2010) – While some full time Junior Golf Academies pride themselves on how many tournaments a student will play in, the real question is, how will the students learn from their experience? After they play, then what?
That won’t be the case with student/golfers who attend the new Jim McLean Junior Academy at the Jim McLean Golf Center-Texas. Certainly, playing in golf tournaments can be fun and rewarding; but if you’re not learning, what’s the point? The Jim McLean Junior Academy will enter its first year with the philosophy that less is more. Approximately nine (9) tournaments will dot the schedule, and at every tournament, staff will chart the games of each student to identify strengths and weaknesses to help the student learn and grow from their experience.
Prior to each tournament, students will learn to prepare for a tournament like a TOUR professional. They will be taught to develop a strategic plan for each course and tournament they play in. They will be taught how to properly play practice rounds, how to scout a course to take advantage of their personal strengths, and how to adapt for various weather conditions.
The system put in place for students of the Jim McLean Junior Academy was developed by McLean during his work with such juniors as Cristie Kerr (who, while working with McLean became the first golfer to attain the No. 1 ranking as junior and amateur at the same time), Alexis Thompson, who like Kerr, also attained the No. 1 ranking as a junior and amateur; Erik Compton, James Vargas, and others.
The Tournament schedule itself is still being finalized, but will consist largely of events runs by such organizations as the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association), and the TLJT (Texas Legends Junior Tour).
The Jim McLean Junior Academy located at the Jim McLean Golf Center-Texas is now accepting students. Application deadline for the fall semester is June 18, 2010. Classes begin August 16, 2010.
