New superintendent, director of instruction and executive chef also tabbed
(SARASOTA, FL) – Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – operator of Misty Creek Country Club – has appointed new personnel to four key positions: Cale Avila as General Manager, Chris Walden as Superintendent, Jex Wilson as Director of Instruction and Krishna Chand as Executive Chef.
Avila comes to Misty Creek after five years at BCG-managed Hudson Hills Golf Club (Ossining, NY). Most recently as Hudson Hills’ General Manager, Avila oversaw dramatic enhancements in customer service, course conditions and financial performance.
To ensure pristine playing surfaces for members and guests, Walden will manage the Misty Creek agronomic team after his stint at River Oaks Golf Plantation (Myrtle Beach, SC). While there, Walden engineered major improvements in playing conditions and course appearance.
Wilson brings to Misty Creek 24 years experience and many professional accolades, including Tennessee Section PGA Professional of the Year. In 1997, he became one of only 207 PGA Master Professionals from an organization of more than 25,000 members. Wilson participated in six PGA Coaching and Teaching summits to help shape his “get-results” teaching philosophy.
With 20 years experience as an executive chef, Chand has worked at some of the most prestigious golf clubs in the Atlanta-area, including Northside Athletic Club. He has been recognized by the American Culinary Federation as its “Member of the Year” and has appeared on The Food Network and Robert Mondavi Taste of Atlanta.
“Misty Creek is ecstatic to appoint a proven, professional team, led by Cale Avila, that will undoubtedly improve the experiences for members and guests,” says Meg Kaminski, President of the Misty Creek Board of Directors. “A strong leadership foundation further bolsters Misty Creek’s membership value.”
The par-72, 6,895-yard championship course with five sets of tees cornerstones Misty Creek’s Ted McAnlis layout. Player-friendly and well-designed, Misty Creek provides a nice mix of tree-lined fairways and wide-open spaces with mounding, extensive bunkering and generous, receptive greens. An extensive practice facility, including a driving range, full-scale short game area and large putting green, provide pre- and post-round warm ups.
Part of a residential community with homes visible on only a few holes and set on 350 acres of preserve with lakes and hammock forests, Misty Creek is an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary. With native trees, protected wetlands and abundant wildlife, Misty Creek is an appealing oasis of golf and nature. The setting boasts deer, bobcat, wild boar, black otters, wild turkeys, alligators and more than seventy different species of birds including eagles.
Misty Creek offers a wide range of member amenities, including tennis courts, lounge, dining room, banquet rooms, clubhouse, fully-stocked pro shop and locker rooms. The club’s charm and beautiful setting make it a natural choice for outings, weddings and other social engagements.
