36-hole oceanfront golf resort selected by USGA, NCGA for prestigious play-in event
(HALF MOON BAY, Calif.) – Half Moon Bay Golf Links — the world-class, 36-hole golf resort set against the dramatic cliffs of the Pacific Ocean just minutes from San Francisco and San Jose – has been selected by the United States Golf Association (“USGA”) and the Northern California Golf Association (“NCGA”) to host a U.S. Open qualifier on May 17.
The event will be held at The Old Course, a classic American parkland layout designed by Arnold Palmer. The USGA and NCGA cited Half Moon Bay Golf Links’ commitment to tournament-level conditioning and its experience in hosting high-profile events, including previous men’s and women’s U.S. Open Qualifiers and the 2008 LPGA Samsung World Championship.
The 2010 U.S. Open will be contested at Pebble Beach Golf Links, June 14-20. Pebble Beach, hosting the prestigious national championship for the fifth time, is just 100 miles south of Half Moon Bay.
“We are honored to once again be selected by the USGA and NCGA to host a U.S. Open Qualifier,” says Mark Kendall, President of Kenmark Golf Management. “The Old Course is a demanding test of golf that requires players to execute a variety of shots from tee to green. It commands both placement and power, and will ready golfers for the formidable challenge they will face at Pebble Beach.”
The U.S. Open, the second-oldest USGA championship by a single day, is the jewel of USGA competitions. The event has evolved into one of the most prestigious championships played with many of the game’s greatest players having captured this coveted title.
The event is open to professionals and amateurs with a handicap index of 1.4 or lower. The Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. To apply for entry, visit www.usga.org.

About Half Moon Bay Golf Links
Set against the dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Half Moon Bay Golf Links is located just minutes from San Francisco and San Jose, and only 20 miles from San Francisco International Airport. The golf resort features thirty-six holes of championship golf; a clubhouse with a full-service pro shop offering the latest equipment and fashionable apparel; and the popular ocean-view restaurant, Mullins Bar & Grill, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in a casual fireside dining setting.
For nearly 40 years, avid golfers have been returning to this incomparable setting, enjoying the variety of play offered by two award-winning courses: Arnold Palmer’s classic American parkland-styled The Old Course and the Scottish-links-styled Ocean Course designed by Arthur Hills.
The Old Course is a classic American design, with a series of strategically-demanding holes linked through the property’s interior. The famous, par-5 18th emerges along the Pacific Ocean, boasting one of the most stunning tee-to-green views in the U.S. It plays up to The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay’s oceanfront courtyard and fire pit, creating one of the most exciting finishes in the state.
The Ocean Course provides a true links golf experience: the salt air of the Pacific a constant as it is transported via the constant breeze from the Ocean just yards away. Fairways are separated by coastal mounding and native grasses, and open green fronts and creatively designed green surrounds support a variety of different playing options. It has been enhanced to feature a fast-and-firm playing surface tee through green that adds multiple shot opportunities and fosters short game creativity.
The Ocean Course hosted the 2008 LPGA Samsung World Championship, featuring the world’s best women golfers and won by Paula Creamer. Half Moon Bay Golf Links is also a regular site for U.S. Open Men’s and Women’s qualifiers, most recently in 2009.
The golf courses are managed by Kenmark Golf Management, for more information about Kenmark please visit www.kenmark.com
