Harrison Taylor of Shallotte, NC and Bria’ Sanders of Cordova, TN to
Attend Prestigious Academy in Hilton Head
NEW YORK, NY-Golf Digest, in partnership with Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (Hank Haney IJGA), has announced the winners of the 2010 Golf Digest Scholars program: Harrison Taylor of Shallotte, NC and Bria’ Sanders of Cordova, TN.
Approximately 400 student-athletes submitted essays to the program describing why they should be voted the Golf Digest Scholar of the Year to have the opportunity to attend the Hank Haney IJGA on Hilton Head Island, SC. Harrison and Bria’ were selected as the male and female recipients via an online vote.
Harrison, a sophomore at West Brunswick High School, has been playing golf for five years and currently participates with The Brunswick County First Tee Program. He boasts a 5.6 handicap and a weighted GPA of 4.50.
Bria’, an eighth grader at Cordova Middle School, is an honors student and the first African American to receive Player of the Year awards on both the Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour and the United States Junior Golf Tour.
Harrison and Bria’ have been awarded two- and four-year scholarships, respectively, to the academy. The scholarship includes tuition, room, and board for each academic year.
“We are very excited to have Harrison and Bria’ join us this fall. Their passion and commitment to the game of golf make them an excellent fit for Hank Haney IJGA. Harrison and Bria’ have fantastic academic and junior golf credentials. My staff at Hank Haney IJGA looks forward to helping each of these students to reach their fullest potential,” said Hank Haney, Director of Instruction at Hank Haney IJGA.
In 2009, 94 percent of Hank Haney IJGA graduating students received a college golf scholarship.
More information about the program and the winners can be found in the July issue of Golf Digest, on newsstands June 8, and online at www.golfdigestscholars.com.
