KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (April 13, 2010) – Golf by Design, a new high-tech golf superstore, has opened in the Pavilion section of the world famous King of Prussia Mall. Combining high quality golf equipment with high fashion apparel and a high-tech approach to club-fitting, the new store has already made an immediate impression in the golf-rich Philadelphia suburbs.
Golf by Design is a 7,500 square foot, full-service golf store that features the highest level of technology available in the golf industry.
Most notable is the 700 square foot Callaway Performance Center, which will provide high-tech analysis for club-fitting. Featured in the Callaway Performance Center is Buck Jones, one of the top amateur golfers in the Greater Philadelphia area. He is the reigning Montgomery County Amateur champion, as well as a former Philadelphia Publinks champion. As National Callaway Fitter, he brings years of experience on the course to the fitting room, as well as a reputation as an award-winning leader on the Callaway team.
In addition to the Callaway room, there are two hitting bays – one of which is equipped with the Vector X Launch Monitor. The store also features a 12-foot by 12-foot putting green and flat screen high-definition televisions that will provide the latest in golf programming.
Golf by Design also provides a full-service club repair section that offers everything from the simplest re-gripping of clubs to the most sophisticated fitting of high-end golf equipment. The staff has years of experience in all phases of clubmaking and club repair.
In the soft goods department, Golf by Design also plans to compete at the highest level. There is a well-stocked shoe room, as well as a large assortment of men’s and women’s golf apparel.
Experience is also the key when it comes to the management side of Golf by Design. Chief Operating Officer Susan Volpi brings 20 years of marketing and retail experience with her. Dino Volpi, president of Golf by Design, adds 15 years of golf-specific retail experience, as well as a wealth of knowledge of the Philadelphia area competitive golf scene.
“There are a lot of golf stores around the area that will sell you a set of clubs,” explained Dino Volpi. “The difference with us is that we are here to provide a first-class golf experience for the golfer from the second they walk in the door. We want to separate ourselves from the competition with the level of service we deliver and our ability to custom fit them with equipment.
“We have the highest level of technical expertise available in the area,” Volpi continued. “We have trained golf experts and the technology to back them up.”
While other golf operations have shrunk in size or closed their doors, due to the country’s economic woes, Volpi has taken a very aggressive approach in developing such an upscale, high-tech golf center.
“A lot of people have asked me why I would open such a store in this economy,” he said. “I honestly feel there is a golf renaissance taking place in Philadelphia. We have the AT & T Championship at Aronimink this year and next year. The U.S. Open is coming to Merion in 2013. I personally think we are going to see a great resurgence in golf in Philadelphia in the upcoming years.”
Golf by Design is located in the heart of golf-rich Montgomery County, surrounded by 58 golf courses. The store is on the third floor of the mammoth King of Prussia Mall complex, at the northernmost corner along DeKalb Pike.
