Marlborough, MA. – (April 29, 2010) – CHAMP Spikes, The #1 Brand on Tour®, and Golf Pride, the #1 Grip on Tour®, announce a new promotional partnership which will allow golfers who purchase Golf Pride grips at Golf Galaxy or Dick’s Sporting Goods to receive a free set of spikes up to the first 5,000 redemptions.
Two of the industry’s leading companies in their respective fields have joined together in a strategic partnership to help make changes in the game of golf by educating consumers on the importance of servicing their equipment. The first 5,000 golfers to re-grip eight or more clubs with Golf Pride grips at any Golf Galaxy or Dick’s Sporting Goods between May 1 and May 31, 2010 will receive a free set of CHAMP ScorpionSTINGER™ Spikes. This is the first joint promotion between the two companies aimed at educating consumers on the importance of changing out spikes and re-gripping clubs.
“With Golf Pride being the leader in grip technology, and CHAMP being the leader in sport cleat technology, this seemed like a natural partnership,” said Dan Koehler, director of global sales and marketing for Eaton’s Golf Grip Division. “Making sure you have fresh, high quality grips, and that you are wearing the right spikes can significantly help golfers of all levels play their best. We are excited to be able to further help golfers meet their playing potential with this promotion.”
“This partnership teams up two global golf brands to educate the consumer on the importance of changing their spikes and grips,” said Harris MacNeill, President and CEO of CHAMP / MacNeill Engineering. “Golfers need a stable base in order to achieve maximum potential with any golf swing. Golfers need traction and our spikes are made with superior designs to give golfers that traction. Our mission is to support golfers as they strive to play better golf and in turn give them a better experience on the course.”
CHAMP, The World Leader in Sport Cleat Technology®, has conducted various studies showing that for optimal traction and comfort, golfers should change their spikes every 12 to 15 rounds. Wear will vary depending upon surface and terrain conditions, so golfers should visually inspect their cleats each time they put their golf shoes on and worn spikes should always be replaced promptly. This is the reason that all of CHAMP ScorpionSTINGER spikes come with a wear indicator letting the golfer know it’s time to change their spikes.
Using worn grips can cause golfers to increase hand pressure on the club, resulting in arm and wrist tension that can inhibit proper swing mechanics and lead to loss of distance and control. The grip is one of the most important components in golf and the only part of the club that a golfer actually touches. It is recommended that grips be changed every year or every 40 rounds — whichever comes first.
