Louisville, KY – Paul Azinger always has a plan. He believes in outthinking his opponent as much as he does outplaying him. So when he took on the role as Ryder Cup Captain in 2008, his job was to reclaim the cup that the Europeans had owned since 2002.
He came up with a plan. And now he reveals the strategy that led the U.S. to victory in his new book titled “Cracking the Code: The Winning Ryder Cup Strategy: Make It Work for You.”
On Wednesday, May 5th, from 9-11 a.m., ‘Zinger, as he’s often called, will make his first public appearance promoting the book at the PGA Tour Shop in the Jacksonville International Airport. This will be the first time the book will be sold at retail.
The book recalls the Ryder Cup victory at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. When Azinger returned to tour play the following year, he did something no other pro had done. He signed a glove-only endorsement deal with Louisville-based Bionic, which is owned by the Hillerich & Bradsby, Co., the same company that owns Louisville Slugger and PowerBilt Golf.
Azinger sings the praises of Bionic, calling it “the best golf glove ever made.”
During his appearance at the Jacksonville airport, a Bionic demo area will be set up so patrons can try on the glove that Azinger uses on tour. Bionic is different from all other gloves on the market in that it’s designed by an orthopedic hand surgeon. The glove incorporates an anatomical pad system that fills the valleys of the fingers, palm and thumb so that the hand has more surface contact with the club. This promotes a lighter grip which helps generate more club speed for longer shots. More surface contact also means the club resists twisting at impact to generate more accuracy.
“No one’s ever really explored glove technology until now,” says Azinger. “Now, for the first time ever, a golf glove is actually going to be a piece of equipment.”
As he begins his journey promoting his book and making a mark on the Champions Tour, his hands will get a work out. From hitting golf balls to autographing books, he might need a Bionic glove for both hands.
