Artificial turf grass association donates a practice green to St. Norbert School
El Segundo, CA – TGA-Premier Junior Golf (TGA), one of the leading initiatives to grow the game of golf and the largest national after-school junior golf program in the country, announces the installation of a new synthetic practice putting green at St. Norbert School, site of one of its popular after school golf programs in Orange County.
The 600 square foot putting green, which will be located steps away from the parking lot on campus, will be installed on May 19-21, and provide a convenient and fun location for TGA to conduct its after school programs. This marks the second synthetic green of its kind developed specifically for a TGA program. The first one was installed at Foster Elementary School in the Compton Unified School District in Los Angeles.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to work with St. Norbert School providing young kids the opportunity to grow and develop their life skills through our after school golf enrichment programs. By adding the synthetic putting green, it will allow us to further develop the students in learning the game of golf and preparing them to transition their games to the actual golf course”, said Joshua Jacobs, president and CEO of TGA-Premier Junior Golf. “We also want to thank ASGi and the companies that have donated their time and materials to create this putting green and provide the students with a tool to learn and improve upon the game of golf and life.”
The practice green’s primary system components (artificial grass, infill, seaming material and tools) are being donated to the school by popular artificial grass job materials and tool manufacturers; Act Global Sports, Fairmount Minerals, Groom Industries, SuperFiLL and TurfBond. Additional costs associated with the project are also being donated. Base materials and labor are being provided by the professionals attending the ASGi CERTiFiED Hands-On training workshop delivered by ASGi – the Association of Synthetic Grass Installers (est. 2007).
“Golf is a wonderful sport that every student can participate in – the game of golf is available to many of our children that might not be able to participate in more traditional sports programs,” says Annie Costa, Executive Director, ASGi – the Association of Synthetic Grass Installers. “TGA-Premier Junior Golf is doing an important job bringing golf sports programs to these young people; especially with budget cuts threatening most extra-curricular programs. We reached out to TGA specifically because they work with the public school systems where our gift can be enjoyed by the whole community while giving students enrolled in the golf programs their own place to practice their skills.”
About TGA-Premier Junior Golf
TGA-Premier Junior Golf, formally Total Golf Adventures, was founded in 2003 with a mission of providing K-8th grade students with access to the game of golf through its national at-school and after-school Golf Enrichment Program. TGA has put more than 90,000 students through its program. There are TGA programs in 21 states across the country with more than 2,100 schools participating.
TGA breaks down the traditional barriers of inconvenience and high cost when golf is brought to children through their schools. The unique five-level Golf Enrichment Program, developed by PGA and LPGA golf professionals in coordination with top PhD’s in education and curriculum development, teaches the fundamentals, rules, and etiquette of golf. It also promotes education and golf’s life values through its character development initiative, “Play the Fair Way with TGA.”
TGA is endorsed and named as the official junior golf initiative by the National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA). It is a national supporting organization of the After School Alliance and Lights on After School, a corporate advocate and a partner of the President’s Challenge on Physical Fitness.
