Much-anticipated, 18-hole championship layout targets soft opening in fall
(SHELTON, WA) – Development of the championship golf course at the new Salish Cliffs Golf Club – an amenity of the Squaxin Island Tribe’s Little Creek Casino Resort near Olympia and Seattle, WA – has entered its grow-in phase with a projected soft opening this fall.
Shaping and draining have concluded on the entire course, and construction is complete on 14 holes with grassing underway. Clearing and grading on the other four holes is progressing, and work has commenced on the expansive driving range.
The Salish Cliffs clubhouse – a spacious, log and cedar structure that reflects the craftsmanship of Little Creek Resort – is expected to soon break ground. A wrap-around porch will overlook holes No. 9 and No. 18.
“Those who have sneak-previewed Salish Cliffs are overwhelmed by the course layout and aesthetics,” says Ray Peters, Executive Director of the Squaxin Island Tribe. “On the heels of the hotel expansion, the course will solidify Little Creek as the premier golf-and-gaming destination in the Pacific Northwest.”
Created by award-winning golf-course architect Gene Bates, Salish Cliffs boasts amazing, 360-degree views of the Kamilche Valley. Utilizing the area’s amazing natural attributes, Salish Cliffs incorporates natural vegetation, rock facings and 600 feet of elevation changes with seamless transitions. The par-72, 7,300-yard championship layout offers an intimate experience with 16 of 18 holes encircled by lush forestry.
“The progress of the golf course’s development is on point and on schedule,” says Bates. “Salish Cliffs promises unique, enjoyable and rewarding experiences for golfers of all abilities.”
Salish Cliffs is certain to resonate with golfers who rave about other Bates layouts. These include Circling Raven Golf Club (Worley, ID) and Bayonet Black Horse (Monterey, CA), ranked “100 Greatest Courses in America” and “Best in State” by Golf Digest and Golfweek, respectively. Bates often collaborates on designs with PGA and Champions Tour star Fred Couples
