Tom Fazio designed; public premium golf course earns national recognition
El Paso, Texas, May 10, 2010 – Butterfield Trail Golf Club, a Tom Fazio-designed public premium golf course in El Paso, Texas, was recently recognized by Golfweek Magazine as No. 3 on its list of the “2010 Best Municipal Courses.” The distinct honor ranked Butterfield Trail behind 2009 U.S. Open venue, Bethpage Black and 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open host Chambers Bay.
“The Golfweek rating reflects the dedication of the employees who oversee daily operations at Butterfield Trail Golf Club. It also reaffirms our belief that El Paso is home to one of the best golf courses, not only in the southwest region, but in the country,” said Monica Lombraña, Director of Aviation at El Paso International Airport.
After opening in June 2007, Butterfield Trail Golf Club has quickly become a premium golf destination in the Southwest. The golf course is designed at a par 72, 7,307-yard layout from the champion tees. The property exceeds over 175 acres including natural areas, featuring over 55 feet of elevation changes. Butterfield Trail is the only public premium Tom Fazio-designed course in Texas.
Butterfield Trail Golf Club is one of three newcomers to this year’s list while joining Washington County Golf Course (No. 35) in Hartford, Wis., and Ol’Colony (No. 49) in Tuscaloosa, Ala. According to Golfweek Magazine, one of the things that is most striking about this year’s list is its diversity. The list combines modern day architectural designs such as Fazio and classic icons from the classical era.
Developed and owned by El Paso’s Department of Aviation, and managed by KemperSports since its opening, Butterfield Trail Golf Club is complemented by a spacious practice facility and an 8,800-square-foot clubhouse which is available for catering and private parties. Fazio’s design takes advantage of the distinctive desert topography, including natural sand dunes and native flora and fauna, which highlight the Southwest’s natural beauty. The 18-hole, public golf destination serves as a high-end golf amenity to the airport’s surrounding property and business as well as a catalyst for future commercial development.
In addition to golf, Butterfield Trail is also home to Salida Del Sol, a full-service restaurant and bar serving breakfast and lunch daily to golfers and non-golfers alike. Salida Del Sol offers indoor and outdoor patio seating as well as happy hour specials seven days a week.
