Industry veteran Sean Clancy fills key new role at 2010 Ryder Cup venue
(NEWPORT, Wales) – The Celtic Manor Resort – host of golf’s 2010 Ryder Cup and premier luxury retreat less than two hours outside London – announces Sean Clancy has been hired as golf sales manager.
Clancy assumes the newly created role having held previous sales management positions at Carr Golf Travel, Ireland’s largest golf tour operator, and Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links in Dublin.
Arriving with strong contacts among international golf tour operators, travel agents and corporate golf bookers, Clancy is tasked with further building golf sales at Celtic Manor, which enjoyed a record year for golf visitors in 2009.
He will be responsible for generating bookings from a broad spectrum of groups, including local companies, societies, overseas golf travelers and corporate clients.
“I am very excited about joining Celtic Manor Resort in this Ryder Cup year,” says Clancy, a six-handicap golfer. “I have been involved in the golf travel business for the last seven years and it is a real thrill to be starting a new position at such a prestigious sporting venue.”
Celtic Manor Resort attracted more golf visitors than ever before in 2009 when the Ryder Cup effect combined with some attractive stay and play packages saw thousands of players take on the spectacular challenge of the Twenty Ten Course. Bookings again look strong for this Summer when the course will remain open until four weeks before the Ryder Cup commences on October 1.
“The Ryder Cup captures everybody’s imagination and I’ve already found there is a real buzz about Celtic Manor within the golf industry at the moment,” says Clancy. “I’m looking forward to making sure as many golfers as possible get the opportunity to play the resort’s three fantastic championship courses.”
Says Dylan Matthews, Chief Executive, Celtic Manor Resort: “This is a landmark year for Celtic Manor and one we’ve been building toward for nearly a decade. We’re making sure we have everything in place to facilitate the arrival of golfers from all over the globe who will want to play here both before and after the world’s best players tackle the Twenty Ten Course during the Ryder Cup.”
