ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (May 13, 2010) – The Golf Channel Am Tour is set to conduct a two-day Major Championship at World Golf Village in St. Augustine Saturday and Sunday, featuring a full-field of 186 amateur players from throughout the country.

The Hall of Fame Major Championship will be contested on the King & Bear and Slammer & Squire courses. The tournament will feature 12 handicapped flights, with the top three individuals from each flight automatically qualifying for the 2010 Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships at TPC Sawgrass in September. The Hall of Fame Major Championship’s first round of play will begin Saturday at 7:30 a.m. ET. Included in field is former New York Yankees pitcher Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez, who has competed in eight Golf Channel Am Tour local championships in the South Florida area thus far in 2010.

“The Golf Channel Am Tour is an amazing opportunity for non-professional golfers to play on a tour comparable to the PGA TOUR,” said Kenny Booth, director of events for Golf Channel. “From scratch golfers to those with higher handicaps, the participants get to compete on some of the country’s top courses, including the World Golf Hall of Fame member-designed courses at World Golf Village.”

Players will enjoy accommodations at World Golf Village’s flagship hotel, The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village, as well as a visit to the World Golf Hall of Fame while on property.

As the largest amateur golf tour in North America, the Golf Channel Am Tour is open to the public and provides the most professional tournament experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as offering unparalleled access to some of the most renowned and challenging golf courses across the country.
