(WILMINGTON, DE) – Ed Oliver Golf Club – managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – will unveil its completely renovated clubhouse and golf course enhancements during a community open house on Saturday, May 29 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with complimentary light hors d’oeuvres.
The spacious, 4,000 square-foot clubhouse – overlooking both the course and Wilmington skyline – benefits from a remodel that includes new paint, carpet and interior design. The newly-named, casual dining restaurant, Green Hill Pub, welcomes golfers and locals with a larger space, new menu and flat-screen televisions. The revamped banquet space with seating for 180 guests continues to make Ed Oliver a popular venue for corporate outings, weddings and other social engagements.
Major course work includes bunker renovations on nine holes, tree pruning, new tee and yardage markers, and ball washers. New golf carts and state-of-the-art maintenance equipment help to create even more memorable playing experiences for golfers.
In addition, BCG, the City of Wilmington and University of Delaware have teamed to implement a storm-water runoff project. This will reduce the flood threat to area homes and businesses, boost the course’s irrigation capacity and ensure Ed Oliver’s certification in Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary program for an environmentally-friendly golf course.
“We’re incredibly proud of the changes to Ed Oliver Golf Club,” says Karen Duncan, General Manager of Ed Oliver. “This local favorite has received a transformation augmenting the already enjoyable course routing and historic clubhouse.”
Last year, Ed Oliver Golf Club was named “Best Municipal Course in Delaware” by Golf Digest. It shared elite company in the magazine’s Top 50 with Torrey Pines (CA) and Bethpage Black (NY), home of the past two U.S. Open Championships.
In 2009, BCG – owner and operator of more than 115 courses in 26 states – entered into a long-term lease with the City of Wilmington, Delaware for Ed Oliver. BCG has also leased Rock Manor Golf Course from the City of Wilmington and leases Delcastle Golf Course in Wilmington.
Located on the original site of Wilmington Country Club, Ed Oliver Golf Club – affectionately known as “Porky” Oliver – has delighted golfers for more than 100 years. Re-designed by renowned architects Alfred Tull and Ed Ault, the 18-hole, par-69, 6,115-yard layout retains only a century-old chimney on the signature 18th hole from the original design.
