COLUMBUS, GA., June 7, 2010 – Roy Nix, Executive Director of the Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals (AGCP), leader in the advancement of custom clubfitting and clubmaking, proudly announces the formation and first meeting of the Florida Chapter of the AGCP. The Florida Chapter is now the second active AGCP Chapter following the Tennessee Chapter that was formed last year.
The AGCP is a professional peer group organization formed to promote the education of professional clubfitters and clubmakers around the world. Primarily through the efforts of Jerry Lovell of Port St. Lucie, Florida, an AGCP Master of Golf Club Technology, the AGCP has begun working hand in hand with the PGA to promote golf in general and specifically the ability of Professional clubfitters and Professional Golfers to help golfers find a better game through better fit equipment. Both organizations want to help golfers play a better game and enjoy the game more.
The initial meeting of the Florida Chapter of the AGCP was hosted by Eric Hogge, PGA member & AGCP member, Head Professional and Director of Club Fitting, PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance, and Jerry Lovell, on June 1 & 2 at the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
In addition to organization, the first meeting of the Florida AGCP Chapter consisted of a meeting and a full discussion of fitting and testing data involved in golf swing mechanics, physical fitness, and interpreting test equipment data to determine the best fitting parameters for the individual golfer.
Touring the entire PGA of America facilities in Port St. Lucie left each attendee with a sense of awe at the depth of detail and sense of commitment the PGA of America has to promote the game of golf and to make each golfer a better golfer so he or she can enjoy the game even more. A visit to the PGA Historical Center allowed each attendee to view and have individual pictures taken with the original Ryder Cup and the Wanamaker Trophy as well as see and hear about the vast history of the game of golf and its origins.
A complete demonstration of the various pieces of fitting equipment used by the PGA professionals when fitting their students was presented by Eric Hogge and Jerry Lovell. Florida Chapter AGCP Members were shown the Trackman Launch Monitor system, the Dynamic Balance System, the Science and Motion (SAM) putt lab system, the Motion Analysis Technology by Taylor Made (MAT-T), the Fore Flight Launch Monitor and other systems and equipment used to measure golfers for their equipment needs. After an afternoon of golf at the famed Pete Dye course, each of the AGCP members left for home thoroughly excited about the direction that professional clubfitting is taking and the cooperation between the Professional Golfers Association of America and the Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals going into the future.
Those in attendance were all Floridians: Mike Kell, New Port Richie, Bill Marshall, Lakeland, Jerry Howard, New Smyrna Beach, Charlie Sampson, Venice, Mike Phelan, Daytona, Greg Greene, Eustis, Eric Hogge, Port Saint Lucie, Jerry Lovell, Port Saint Lucie.
